Angie and Johnny met when they were both working for the Boys and Girls Club. At first, Angie did not look twice at Johnny because she is a professional and when she goes to work, she is there to do her job. But after their boss told Angie that Johnny spoke Spanish, her attitude changed. Not long after, Angie asked Johnny to join her at a street festival during First Friday in July of 2016. They immediately hit it off. This turned out to be - as they affectionately refer to it - “The World’s Longest Date.” They ended up visiting several art galleries (mostly to make fun of the pretentious art), a thrift store (where Angie encouraged Johnny to buy some old records), an arcade (where they discovered they had a mutual love of rock music), a sports bar and eventually ended up back at Johnny’s apartment. Not long after, they were watching postgame fireworks on the Colorado Rapids field, getting tortas at one of Angie’s favorite local restaurants, attending electronic and jam band concerts at Red Rocks, getting strawberry ice cream, and climbing politically named mountains together. After a while, Johnny decided that Sydney needed a friend (it may have had something to do with the landlord seeing Sydney’s water bowl and toys at Johnny’s place and forcing him to pay a pet deposit) and along came Butters. Fast forward to the post-pandemic world, and they began traveling the world: a Disney/Miami trip for Angie’s birthday, Mexico (where Johnny proposed on a beach side cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean as a pod of whales swam by), Iceland (where they climbed glaciers, kayaked next to seals, and ate volcanic ash pizza) and many others. But the beauty of their relationship is that they are just as happy galivanting around the globe as they are sitting on the couch and doing “a bunch of nothing.”
