It was 2018 at Loyola, and Angelica and Drew couldn't have been on more different paths. Angelica was deep in the world of Communications, while Drew was learning to crunch numbers in Accounting. Their worlds didn’t seem to overlap—except for one tiny detail: History 101 with the unforgettable Professor Jane Edwards. For two weeks, they sat in the same seminar, on opposite sides of the room, only sharing glances but never exchanging a word. Then, fate decided to step in. Angelica, feeling adventurous, decided to audition for the university’s acapella group. If you haven’t heard of this acapella group... well, it’s because she wasn’t selected. But as luck would have it, Drew was there too, accompanying his cousin, who was also auditioning. The three of them struck up a conversation, Drew making an awkward entrance, ranting about who-knows-what. But soon, they were left alone, standing side by side. Angelica, feeling tired and just over the whole waiting game, decided to break the silence. With a small, slightly sheepish “I hope this isn’t weird,” she plopped herself down on the floor near the audition room. Without missing a beat, Drew matched her energy and sat down right next to her. They started chatting, and just like that, they clicked. They realized they were both in the same history class (though they had never spoken there) and found they had more in common than they thought. Angelica went in for her audition, figuring she’d never see Drew again. But to her surprise, when she came out, there he was—waiting for her, ready to offer a friendly chat. Completely stunned by his kindness, Angelica thanked him, and the two walked out of the building together. But again, no contact info was exchanged, and Angelica thought she’d probably never see him again. Later that night, after she hit the university’s rock wall to climb, guess who was there? Drew, climbing away like a pro. Angelica thought, “Okay, this is getting ridiculous—we’ve now bumped into each other three times in one day! This has to mean something.” So, they finally swapped contact info, and from there, it was all very casual—some Snapchat conversations here and there. No pressure, just getting to know each other. It wasn’t until the next History class that Angelica, spotting Drew sitting a few seats away, waved. And here’s where things took a turn for the adorable: Drew, thinking Angelica was inviting him to sit next to her, grabbed all his things and plopped down beside her. Years later, they laughed at this “canon event,” where Angelica briefly thought, “Wow, this guy is really into me.” Turns out, Drew had just assumed she was being kind and waving him over to sit next to her. This small, accidental moment was the start of something neither of them could have predicted. From that point on, they were inseparable—hanging out every day, eating together, going on field trips, watching movies, and playing Mario Kart. It wasn’t until a cold December night in 2019, a year and a half later, that Drew finally confessed he liked her. Angelica, being skeptical, didn’t believe him right away. But on January 25, 2020, after an afternoon of snow tubing and laughter, Angelica finally gave in and they made it official. And now, five years later, after so many laughs, adventures, and cherished moments, they’re here—planning their wedding and looking forward to the rest of their lives together.
