Founded in 1542 and named after Ignacio Allende, a hero of Mexico’s independence, San Miguel was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008 for its preserved colonial architecture and historic center. It's well known for its baroque & neoclassical churches, especially the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, the pink neo-gothic, iconic landmark in the main square, or "Jardin". Known as an arts and cultural hub, San Miguel has attracted painters, writers, and musicians since the mid-20th century.

Located in the state of Guanajuato, about 3.5 hours from Mexico City, 1.5 hours from Querétaro or León airports. Altitude: ~1,900 meters (6,200 ft) above sea level. Climate: mild, semi-arid – warm days, cool nights year-round. Average highs: 22–28°C (72–82°F). Winters can get chilly at night. In late February, the weather is typically in the mid-to-high 70's and gets down to the 40's in the evenings.

🧳 What to Pack for San Miguel de Allende

Answer

Bring comfortable walking shoes for cobblestones and a light jacket or wrap for evenings. Our rainy season is long over by this time so expect dry weather. San Miguel style can get chic, but a nice casual day-to-night style goes a long way. *As you walk around the narrow sidewalks of historic downtown, please be very aware of the cobblestones - some can be slippery. It's a very walkable town but requires a heightened sense of awareness! *There are many taxis and Ubers here for anyone not wanting to walk. Friday night welcome cocktail happy hour: cocktail casual Dressy cocktail attire for a garden wedding 👗🤵 ALL GRASS Sun Protection 🕶️☀️ Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat — the high altitude means stronger sun.
