Where is Pereira?

Pereira is located in Colombia’s Coffee Region (Eje Cafetero), a lush, mountainous area known for its mild climate, beautiful landscapes, and warm hospitality. It’s about a 45-minute flight from Bogotá and Medellín.

What airport should I fly into?

Answer

Fly into Matecaña International Airport (PEI) in Pereira. Most international travelers will connect through Bogotá (BOG), which has frequent nonstop flights to Pereira on Avianca and LATAM. Bogotá also offers direct international flights from many U.S. cities, including Boston, New York (JFK), Miami, Atlanta, Houston, Washington, DC, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando. If you wish to discover other parts of Colombia before or after the wedding, Pereira has direct flights to Cartagena, Bogotá , Medellín and Cali.

Is it safe to travel to Pereira?

Yes. Pereira and the surrounding Coffee Region are considered safe, welcoming, and tourist-friendly. As with any destination, we recommend standard travel awareness (using hotel taxis, avoiding isolated areas late at night, and keeping valuables secure).

Do I need a visa to travel to Colombia?

US and European passport holders do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. Your passport should be valid for the duration of your stay.

What is the weather like?

Pereira has a spring-like climate year-round, typically ranging from the mid-60s to low-80s°F. Evenings can be cooler, and rain showers are common, so light layers are recommended.

What is the currency?

Answer

The local currency is the Colombian Peso (COP). Credit cards are widely accepted at hotels and restaurants. ATMs are readily available. We recommend bringing some cash as taxis do not accept cards.

Do people speak English?

Answer

Spanish is the primary language. Many hotel staff, tour operators, and wedding vendors speak basic to fluent English, but knowing a few Spanish phrases is helpful and appreciated, if communicating with locals (taxis, waiters, cashiers).

How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

Answer

There is a stand with yellow taxis outside the arrivals level at the Pereira airport. We recommend these taxis. Uber is not legal in Colombia, so please do not count on that as a mode of transportation. The taxis only accept cash, so we recommend having some cash prior to landing in Colombia.

Do we need to rent a car?

Answer

No. Transportation will be provided from the hotels, church and venue. Hotel staff can help arranges taxis for travel within Pereira.
