Grand Teton National Park & Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park, WY 82190

Late September is the most active time of year for wildlife. It is rutting season, so most animals are looking for their mate and eating as much as possible before a long winter. Just like Andy and Remi... If you would like to book a guided tour in Grand Teton National Park or Yellowstone National Park, we recommend Eco Tours and be sure to ask for Kirk Ryder. The best times to see wildlife activity will be at dawn or dusk. If you head out on your own, bring your binoculars, a camera, and a sandwich from Creekside Deli. The southern entrance to Yellowstone is about an hour north of Jackson town. Grand Teton National Park is about 30 minutes north of town, but there is also an entrance from Teton Village.

Jackson Hole Shooting Experience

4125 U.S. 89, Jackson, WY 83001

If the weather isn't great and you're upset you can't see the Tetons or wildlife, head on down to the local gun range for a white glove shooting experience to blow off some steam. They have expert shooting coaches and loads of guns to choose from.

Snake River Scenic Float

Floating the Snake River is always a great activity when you're in Jackson. In September, the floats are more scenic as the water levels are too low for the whitewater section. Our favorite section of the river is Deadman's to Moose or Moose to Wilson. This is the most scenic section as you will be right in front of the Tetons during the float. Your guide may recommend something near the Jackson Lake Dam or Pacific Creek if the bears are out in the meadows. A float is the best way to see wildlife as you are far away from public roads.

Hiking

Wildflower Trail, Jackson Hole Mountain (3.9 to top / moderate): Enjoy the sunshine and stunning views of the valley. Grab a drink at the top of the gondola and take it down, for free! Jenny Lake (7 miles / easy-moderate): A great intro to the park as you get beautiful views of both the lake and the Tetons. We recommend adding the ~2 miles to reach panoramic views from Inspiration Point. You can also opt to take the ferry one or both ways across the lake. Taggart Lake (4 miles / easy): A shorter option but one that still provides beautiful mountain views. Jump in the lake for a refreshing dip mid-hike. Delta Lake (7.5 miles / hard): For those looking for a challenge, this is a steeper trail (and rocky at parts) but with incredible views and an alpine lake at the top. Cascade Canyon / Lake Solitude (15 miles / hard): This trail takes you deep into the canyon at the base of the Tetons where moose and bear sightings are common.

Other Activities

Fly Fishing: We highly recommend Jackson Hole Fly Fishing School or Snake River Angler. White Water Rafting: Check out Dave Hansen. Horseback Riding: Mill Iron Ranch (closer to Jackson) or Little Jenny Ranch for the full cowboy experience :) Scenic Drive: At the entrance of the National Elk Refuge, you are able to drive your own car down the dirt road to explore. There is a very high chance of seeing wildlife along your scenic drive.
