When you show up to your friend’s Halloween bonfire riding a dinosaur, one might think of that as unforgettable. But for Kirstin that was not the case. However for me, one thing I couldn’t forget about was her smile and beautiful eyes. Although that night was just a brief meet, I knew I wanted to know more about her... It took a while, but four months later, my friend Joanna pulled me aside one night after coaching a high school hockey game together and said I needed to meet Kirstin for real this time. I was off to work for two weeks, she asked for my work schedule to plan a surprise party for Kirstin after I got home. After a formal introduction, a few adult beverages and me convincing her to try my home made moose jerky (and she actually liked it) I knew there was potential for something special between us. It wasn’t long after that I took her out for our first date, where we had a wonderful dinner, great conversation and a connection was starting to grow. I had to go back to work for two weeks and wasn’t going to see her, I made her a CD and asked her not to forget about me while I was gone. As I suspected, she did not forget about me. The dates continued and my love for her was growing. Several months went by before making it official and asking her to be my girlfriend. Fast forward after moving in together, several trips, and adopting a cat, I finally popped the question on February 21, 2025 while on vacation in St.Lucia.
After a recent break up I came into work with a sad face and puffy eyes, Joanna hugged me and said “Don’t worry I already have someone for you, you are going to be just fine”. Little did I know she was already planning a surprise birthday party just to introduce us. As I was getting ready for the party, all I could think was “here we go again, another awkward set up that I’m going to friend zone real quick”, but anyone that has spent any length of time with Snella (Andrew) knows you can’t ignore his infectious energy, charter fishing jokes and moose jerky. We spent the rest of the night talking and the next morning, as the gentlemen he is, Snella started my car, cleared all the snow off and opened my driver’s door for me. A few dates later, Snella had to go back to work, he gave me a CD to listen to in the car to ensure “I didn’t forget about him”. Sadie then spent those weeks talking him up, referencing his softball coaching skills and killer dance moves. I guess it worked, because we have spent every hitch (time off from the oil field) home together since. I always said that I wanted to travel the states until someone gave me a reason to stay, it happened a little sooner than expected, and now I call Alaska home. From day one Snella (Andrew) has always felt like my other half, he goes out of his way to make me coffee every morning (even though he doesn’t like or drink it) and he calms my crazy. He gives meaning to “everything happens for a reason” and I am truly the luckiest girl in the world!
