It was the night before Thanksgiving, the infamous Blackout Wednesday. Everyone in town seemed to be at Lake Park Pub, ready to kick off the long weekend. I was there with a few friends, enjoying the energy of the crowded bar and catching up with old faces. But that night, the moment that changed everything happened when I crossed paths with Kendra. We had a mutual friend, Jeff, who was a bit of a social butterfly. He made his rounds talking to everyone and was quick to introduce us. Kendra and I ended up talking for a while. The conversation flowed effortlessly, and we laughed and shared stories like we’d known each other for years. But, as much as I tried to impress her with my wit, Kendra remained composed and not easily swayed. I quickly learned that Kendra wasn’t the type to be swept off her feet by the first charming guy who walked into the bar. I, being bold as always, made my first attempt to ask her out, and she politely declined. No big deal, I thought, maybe she just wasn't interested. But then I tried again, and again she turned me down. I was starting to think, "Wow, this girl really knows what she wants." That’s when things take an interesting turn. Still unconvinced, Kendra decided to hang out in a group setting with her friend Jessica and my friend Will. I think she just wanted to keep it casual. We all met in Green Bay, chatting and laughing the night away. Kendra and I weren’t quite a couple, but an undeniable connection was growing between us. And that was the beginning. From that night forward, the connection only deepened. I was persistent, but Kendra’s decision to give me a chance in a more relaxed setting was the spark that led to something special. We started hanging out more and going on dates, and before we knew it, things had just clicked. Our story really does feel like something out of a movie — one chance meeting, a few setbacks, and a group of friends who helped create the perfect environment for us to get to know each other. As they say, the rest is history. From Blackout Wednesday to this moment, I’ve never looked back. Kendra is now my fiancée, and it all started because of that unforgettable night at Lake Park Pub.
