Question

Do I need to be vaccinated to attend the wedding?

Answer

Yes. For the safety of all our guests, the Austrian entry requirements, and necessity to present proof of vaccination on premise at restaurants/venues, we are requiring all attendees to be vaccinated at least two weeks prior to the wedding.  We will continue to monitor the ever-evolving situation and provide updates as necessary, but please plan to bring your physical vaccination card, as it will need to be presented to enter restaurants, museums, etc.

Question

How long does my passport need to be valid for?

Answer

Your passport needs to be valid for 6 months post your return travel date.

Question

Do American Citizens Need a Visa to Travel to Austria?

Answer

You do not need to apply for a visa if your travel is limited to 90 days or less.

Question

Can I arrive earlier or stay later?

Answer

Absolutely, and we recommend it! Austria is one of the many beautiful, centrally located European countries and is easy to get to and from via plane, train, or car. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or recommendations within Austria or abroad!

Question

Do I need to rent a car?

Answer

You do not need to rent a car to get around the lake, as there is a ferry that can do that. See below for the link to book tickets. There is also a train station in Velden that can take you to nearby cities. That being said, travel via car is our favorite way to see the neighboring countries and is great for quick day trips. Should you rent a car, a couple of things to note: 1. You will not have to drive on the opposite side of the road 2. For those that cannot drive a manual car, make sure you double check that upon check out. Depending on inventory, you can rent an automatic vehicle for a slight up-charge. 3. You need to get an International Driver's Permit to rent a car and drive in Europe. Use the below link to fill out an application and visit your local AAA office to obtain your international permit. It's only $20. Worthersee Ferry: https://www.woertherseeschifffahrt.at/en/ International Driver's Permit: https://www.aaa.com/vacation/idpf.html

Question

What is the weather typically like at this time of year?

Answer

During the day, the weather ranges from 70°-80°F / 21°-27°C. It does tend to cool off during the evenings (think 55°F / 13°C), so we recommend having layers on hand.

Question

What is some typical Austrian food I should try?

Answer

Wiener Schnitzel: Very thin, breaded and pan fried cutlet made from veal, pork, or chicken) Frittaten Soup Zwiebelrostbraten: Roast beef topped with fried onions and a sauce from the drippings) Käsespätzle: Pasta with a creamy mixture of melted cheese Kärntner Nudeln: A dish unique to the province of Carinthia. Pasta pockets stuffed with a mixture of cheese, herbs, and potatoes. Fish: Forelle (trout) & gegrillte Seezuge (grilled sole) Gulasch: A rustic stew made with beef and vegetables and eaten with bread or noodles Bratwurst/Käsekrainer: Traditional Bavarian sausage/cheese-stuffed Bratwurst (another one of Andrew's favorites) Brettljause: Plate of cold cut meats accompanied by local cheeses, pickles, and spreads like liptauer For dessert: Apfelstrudel (Andrew's ultimate favorite), Kaiserschmarrn, Sachertorte (If you find yourself in Vienna, stop at the café at Hotel Sacher where this was created), Faschingskrapfen, Germknödel, Palatschinken (Crepes)

Question

What Austrian drinks should I try?

Answer

Our favorite question to answer! Austria has delicious light white wine, Grüner Veltliner – perfect for pairing with a Wiener Schnitzel! For an Austrian red wine, we recommend trying Zweigelt. You can also find great Chianti and Montepulciano from neighboring Italy! The most well-known beer companies are Stiegl, Ottakringer, Zipfer and Gösser, but there are dozens of small and private breweries. It's also popular to drink Radlers which is similar to a shandy. For cocktails we recommend an Aperol Spritz, Sommerspritzer, or a Hugo. Lastly, after a hearty Austrian meal you may want a shot of Grappa or Schnapps. Prost! For a non-alcoholic beverage, Almdudler is a sweetened carbonated beverage that is heralded as "Austria's national drink." Tap water in Austria is also delicious and safe to drink anywhere.

Question

What is the currency in Austria?

Answer

Austria uses the Euro. We do recommend traveling with some cash on hand, as some smaller shops or restaurants in Austria may not accept credit cards. A friendly reminder to let your credit card company know which countries you will be traveling to avoid triggering a fraud alert.

Question

Will I need a power converter?

Answer

Yes, if you're traveling from the U.S., you will need a converter as the Austrian outlets (Type C) are different.

Question

Are kids allowed?

Answer

While you are welcome to bring your kids on the trip, as well as attend the various events over the course of the weekend, we kindly request that there are no kids at the ceremony or reception due to venue capacity. We are happy to connect you with babysitters in the area.
