Long before Dorothy and I even knew each others’ names, we both attended Camp Henry for many summers as campers. There are photos of us at the same camp sessions standing a few feet apart, yet not knowing what fate God had in store for us down the road. We officially met while working together as counselors at Camp Henry in the summer of 2012. That first summer, a strong friendship grew. We would spend many a night after staff meetings talking about all sorts of topics, from the serious and deep to the absurd and downright silly. We even jokingly said that we should get married someday. It wasn’t until the following summer that things took a romantic turn. The topic of who was into who first is a matter of debate, but it is safe to say that we both came into the summer with the beginnings of a crush. Andrew assumed that Dorothy was not just out of his league, but playing a different sport entirely. Dorothy, however, was scheming to make Andrew fall in love with her. She succeeded (clearly). The next three years of our relationship were primarily spent long-distance (mostly due to Dorothy's compulsive need to move states (Florida + California)). Life seemed determined to keep us apart, at least physically. Yet, we talked all day every day. We texted (constantly), we called, we “snapped,” we facebook messengered, we Skyped, we used every means available to communicate. In an odd way, it strengthened our love by forcing us to learn about each other as our only form of intimacy. It took a summer romance and transformed it into a deep and meaningful relationship. The last three years of our relationship have been spent with both of us in North Carolina, a big priority for us after 3 years of long distance! Andrew planned a surprise proposal at his family lake house in Grandfather Mountain (his sister Lindsey hid in the bushes to take photos). We are so excited to celebrate our wedding with you all in May at the most special place in the world to us.
