The Jackson County, Indiana Dog Shelter has been a vision of many, including Andrea (and later Steve), since 2008 when a canine control program was started by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. The goal is to build a dog shelter that will be managed by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and will provide opportunities for approved inmates to care for and train the dogs. We see it as a win-win for the inmates and the dogs. The shelter building is constructed next to the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown, IN. To complete the project and programing, a final $75,000 is needed. Two of our dogs are rescues and we would like to give other loving pets a chance to join a caring and loving home. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention utilizes over 82% of donations to program services. While we all probably know someone who’s taken their own life, both of us have been touched by this tragic outcome of depression and anxiety. Some of our friends and family have taken their own lives, most recently as a few weeks ago. Anything we can do to provide an alternative to this tragic outcome is the type of gift we can provide to make our world a better place.
