Travel Note
Getting to Colombia Most guests will fly into José María Córdova International Airport (MDE), which serves Medellín. There are many convenient flight options from the United States, typically with one connection through cities such as Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Panama City, Houston, or Dallas. For guests traveling from San Diego, Los Angeles, and Kansas City, common routes include: - Los Angeles (LAX) → Medellín, often connecting through Miami, Panama City, or Houston - San Diego (SAN) → Medellín, typically connecting through Los Angeles, Miami, or Dallas - Kansas City (MCI) → Medellín, commonly connecting through Dallas, Miami, or Houston Total travel time is typically 7–10 hours, depending on connections. We recommend booking flights earlier rather than later, as Medellín has become a very popular destination and flights can fill up quickly.
Flight
Guests will fly into José María Córdova International Airport (MDE), which serves Medellín and is located just outside the city. Guatapé is about 90 minutes from the airport. Once we have a better sense of everyone’s arrival times, we will help coordinate group shuttles to Guatapé for guests who would like transportation. If you prefer, you are also welcome to rent a car at the airport. The drive to Guatapé is beautiful and easy, with scenic views of the surrounding mountains and lakes along the way. Uber and private drivers are also available from the airport if you prefer to arrange your own transportation. Many guests will likely arrive on Wednesday or earlier that week and travel directly to Guatapé from the airport. We also know that some flights arrive later in the evening on Wednesday, so staying near the airport that night and driving up to Guatapé on Thursday morning is another easy option (the wedding is at 4 pm Thursday).
Travel Note
Guatapé is a colorful lakeside town about two hours from Medellín (90 minutes from the airport), known for its vibrant streets, beautiful reservoir views, and relaxed mountain atmosphere. It’s one of our favorite places in Colombia and the perfect setting for our wedding celebration.
Hotel
For our wedding in Guatapé, we have reserved Tau House for our wedding party and a limited number of guests due to the number of rooms available. Tau House will also be the setting for several wedding festivities throughout the weekend, including the after‑party. Important note for guests staying at Tau House: There has been a change to our plans for Friday night, 9/4. That evening, we will all stay together in cabins at La Pausa for one night before heading to Medellín for the weekend. Additional details will be shared closer to the date.
Hotel
The Brown Hotel is a beautiful hotel in Guatapé where many of our wedding guests will be staying. It offers a comfortable, convenient place to relax while staying close to all the weekend’s celebrations. Guests staying at The Brown are warmly invited to join us for meals, gatherings, and festivities throughout the weekend, including events hosted at Tau House. For guests planning to stay at The Brown, we are currently waiting a few additional RSVPs to secure a group rate. Once finalized, we will send an email with booking instructions by the end of May. **Transportation will be arranged between The Brown and all wedding events.
Travel Note
If you would prefer to stay somewhere other than The Brown, Guatapé offers many wonderful boutique hotels nearby. Glamping is also very popular in the area, with beautiful, unique outdoor stays available for guests seeking a more adventurous experience in nature. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions. We are more than happy to share recommendations for hotels or glamping options in the area.
Travel Note
After our time in Guatapé, we will be heading back to Medellín, and guests who would like to join us are welcome to continue the celebration. We will arrange a shuttle for all wedding guests traveling from Guatapé to Medellín, making the transition easy and seamless. We’re excited to spend our time in Medellín enjoying great food, exploring the city together, and experiencing the energy of the city both during the day and in the evenings. Our plans will include a mix of relaxed moments and fun nights out. We will be staying in a neighborhood called Manila, located within El Poblado. El Poblado is one of Medellín’s most walkable and visitor‑friendly areas, known for its excellent dining, nightlife, and vibrant atmosphere. Manila is a charming and slightly quieter pocket of El Poblado, offering a more laid‑back feel while still being steps away from cafés, restaurants, and bars. During our time in Medellín, we plan to organize a few optional group outings and will also share recommendations around the city for those who would like to explore outside of the group activities. All details will be shared closer to the date. Since Monday is a holiday, we know plans may vary. Some guests have mentioned staying through Monday, while others are planning to stay for the full week. We will be there during this time and would love to spend as much time together as possible enjoying the city. Please let us know your plans if you decide to join us.
Hotel
For those joining us in Medellín, The Landmark Hotel Medellín will be our group hotel, and we’d love for you to stay with us there. The Landmark offers a comfortable, modern stay with thoughtfully designed rooms, daily breakfast, and a beautiful rooftop bar and pool with views over the city, making it a great place to relax and spend time together. An email with reservation details has already been sent to guests, so please refer to that message for booking information. Another Great Option Nearby: We also love Sloh Hotel, which is located just around the corner from the Landmark. It’s a wonderful option for guests looking for a more affordable stay while still being right next to the group and close to everything in the area. There are also many amazing hotels in the area, so if you prefer to stay somewhere else entirely, please feel free to reach out. We’re more than happy to recommend other great hotel options nearby.
