We met volunteering at a local community garden with an organization in undergrad. We were paired up to lead volunteers in the garden a few times a week; I had never worked in a garden before (I told the group leader I wanted to work with the local nursing home, but that was already taken), but was excited to figure it out. Andrea was already a pro and was stuck with showing me the ropes. On our first day there I could not manage to say more than a few words, nervous to be with her since I'd seen her at a meeting earlier in the year and thought she was like totally hot. Andrea later informed me she had her doubts about co-leading together due to our scant conversation as she showed me around the garden (I probably said 15 words the whole day, no lie). After a few weeks, though, we got more comfortable with each other and realized that we actually had a lot to talk about. My fabulous personality won her over, and she fake proposed to me in the garden. Then, three months later in true anxious-lesbian fashion one of us (Andrea) actually gutsied up and asked the other (me) to go on a date!
