Walking: We enjoy walking along Main Street in Lake Placid to window shop and to look out at Mirror Lake. If you're looking for a nature walk, High Falls Gorge is a nice spot where you can see multiple waterfalls. Hiking: "AllTrails" is a great app that provides current reviews and details for hikes in the area. Some of our favorite hikes include: - Shorter hikes: Mount Jo Loop Trail (2 miles), Baker Mountain (2 miles), Mt. Van Hoevenberg (4 miles) - Longer / more difficult hikes (part of the Adirondack 46 Peaks above 4,000 ft): Cascade and Porter (6 miles), Wright Peak (7 miles).
Olympic History: At Mt. Van Hoevenburg, you can see where Olympians competed in the luge. The Cliffside Coaster (roller coaster on the bobsled track used in the 1980 Olympics) is the longest mountain coaster in the US - and you control the speed! Food & Drink: - Lake Placid Pub & Brewery has great beer & food - Big Slide Brewery (named for the Olympic ski jump!) is a fun spot to hang out - We love the food at The Cottage on Mirror Lake - plus it has a fantastic view! - If you're looking for a quick bite, the Lakeview Deli in Saranac Lake has excellent sandwiches - Mountain Mist in Saranac Lake has the best soft serve ice cream - Cliff has been ordering a vanilla with rainbow sprinkles for ~30 years
There are great opportunities for kayaking the many lakes in the area - it's fun to paddle around town! You can rent kayaks and paddle boats by the hour from Mirror Lake Boat Rental, Placid Boat Rentals, and other local shops.
Whiteface Club (wedding venue) has an incredible golf course. Craig Wood and Lake Placid Club are also great courses. Saranac Lake Golf Course may be the best $10 9-hole round in the country.
