It was a late evening in April 2023 when Nick made the decision to go to a Blues/Jazz concert at the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown, NY. After navigating the "pay online" feature while standing outside of the event, he walked inside and saw his best friend's dad sitting near the middle. He decided to join him. He had been trying to go out on the town more often as a single man on the market, but seeing familiar faces in a small town is inevitable. After saying hi & chatting, he realized that his 5th grade teacher was sitting right in front of him. After hemming and hawing, he decided to reintroduce himself- they caught up on life since 5th grade and she invited him to her house for tea. He agreed happily and a week later was meeting her at her house. While there, she showed him what she had been working on- three children's books she'd written and published, plus a fourth one in the works. She explained that she was getting help from a local BOCES art teacher and raved about how wonderful she was. At some point, she mentions that this friend is "a nice person looking for a nice guy" and offers to get Nick in touch. Based off of context clues, Nick gathered that this person was likely in their early to mid thirties (he himself is 23), but that he's definitely like to meet them, but didn't want to make them uncomfortable. "Let her know that I'm 23 and if she's interested in grabbing coffee, I'd love to meet." After getting her number, Nick began texting with Andie- opening up with asking how teaching was during COVID- a really easy conversation starter. He recalls just about perishing from the panic of opening with such a question- but she obliged. Thankfully, they texted every day leading up to their first date, even setting up a second date before having the first one! They had coffee at a little locally-owned coffee shop on April 22nd, 2023, then later went to a local brewery to hear a band that same evening. Since the first dates, barring any extenuating circumstances, Andie and Nick have been inseparable since!
