Once upon a time in Cambodia, Jake was teaching English, and Andie was studying with a fellowship program. They crossed paths and at the very outset began a tradition of comical mishaps. They agreed to meet at the Sky Bar in Siem Reap, unbeknownst to them that they were both talking about two different establishments with the same name, and each thought that the other had left them alone and unrequited. Later that night, after many apologies, Jake picked up Andie from her hotel on his tiny motorcycle affectionately known as Badd Matt due to its proclivity to break down. They went to a carnival, rode rickety, questionably safe rollercoasters with Khmer children, drank bad rum and pineapple juice on the roof of Andie’s hotel and shared their first kiss. At the time, neither of them could have predicted that what had started as a two-week fling in a far-off land would grow into something so much deeper and more meaningful. Over the next three years, Jake and Andie began a romance that crossed thousands of miles and numerous time zones between Cambodia, Minnesota, Alaska, Norway, Arizona, and Texas. They flew across the country on budget airlines to spend school breaks together, sent old-fashioned love letters, and spent many, many hours on Skype.

Jake and Andie’s long-distance chapter finally came to an end when Andie graduated. They packed up her belongings in a rented minivan and drove from Minnesota to Houston to start their next adventure. Within a week Jake and Andie immediately adopted a furry goblin princess, Fiona, and settled into domestic bliss.

Jake proposed to Andie on the morning of their fifth anniversary, while they were still in their pajamas. He proposed with the ring worn by his grandmother’s parents, L. Julian Harris and Ruth Schnadig Harris. The ring is engraved with their initials and wedding date —12/31/1926.

After one pandemic, two floods, eight moves, a cat that may or may not have existed, and eleven and a half years together, Jake and Andie are tying the knot on the 100-year anniversary of his great-grandparents. We can't wait to celebrate with you.
