Travel Note
Although you are welcome to fly into Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport, located 40 minutes from Crested Butte, your most practical airport option will be Denver International. From Denver, carve through the Front Range on US 285 before taking US 50 West over Monarch Pass (Elevation 11,300!) and into Gunnison. From Gunnison, drive 35 minutes along SH 135 into Crested Butte. We can't recommend enough that you consider stopping at K's Dairy Delite in Buena Vista - about halfway through the drive - for a bathroom break and maybe an old-fashioned burger and a shake.

Crested Butte is a quaint mountain town located about 4.5-hours from Denver. We hope that you find the scenic drive to be worth it - it is known to be the Wildflower Capital of Colorado and for that reason attracts many tourists during the summer months. The town has a varied array of hotel and lodging options; whatever you decide, we recommend booking your accommodations as soon as possible. We also recommend that you consider using AirBnB or VRBO, as Crested Butte is a resort town with no shortage of vacation properties for rent.

A historic boardinghouse for miners dating back to 1919, the Elk Mountain Lodge today is a charming and friendly 19-room lodge. They request a 3-night stay with rates between $189 and $239/night.
