We met spending the summer counseling at Lake Ann Camp in northern Michigan. We didn't spend much time together for most of the summer, but after one fun weekend at the lake with friends, that all changed. The last 2 weeks at camp were spent seeing each other on our breaks and making sure that we hung out together during the weekends. Both Joe and Ana had eyes on each other, but neither one knew it yet. After camp ended, Joe and Ana kept talking...and talking...and talking. After a few weeks of talking, Joe eventually drove up to Grand Rapids after the first week of school to spend the weekend with her and to tell her how he felt. It worked out pretty well, I'd say :)
In September of 2018, Joe was speaking in chapel at Cedarville University when Ana decided after about a month and a half of talking to go and hear him speak in chapel. After a full day of being in chapel, seeing friends, going to a movie and dinner, Joe asked Ana to be his girlfriend, and she said YES! What a crazy day it was, but certainly a day neither of them would ever forget. Over the next two years, Ana and Joe would laugh, cry, and learn to love each other through it all.
On September 5th, Joe and Ana spent their evening at Holland Beach (where Joe told Ana he liked her in 2018 and where they spent their one year anniversary in 2019). As Joe and Ana walked to the beach, Joe pointed out some decorations at the beach and told Ana "I think this is for us." At this point, it all clicked for Ana: Joe was going to propose. At this point, Joe had Ana open up a series of letters wherein he wrote everything he had learned about her and treasured about her over the last 2 years. After Ana read the last letter, fighting tears, Joe got down on one knee and asked Ana if she would marry him. With joy, Ana said yes. Now the countdown begins for the day they so eagerly wait to come: the day they become husband and wife.
