Billy and Amy met through friends at a music and arts festival in Southern California in 2015. Although they didn’t live in the same city, they spent many weekends together with their friends—roaming around DisneyLand and airbnbing throughout the desert, Idyllwild and Big Bear, often sharing the bunk bed room. Eventually, they decided to rent a car to coordinate a trip to Burning Man, although they’d be camping roughly 2 miles from each other. The journey there put their friendship on very thin ice (Billy was MIA, or went ahead to finish packing, when the bikes he “secured” to the car fell into the street within the first 5 minutes. Thank you, Tom - for picking up the pieces). But it might have been the 20 hour trip home where they fell in love. They stopped in Lake Tahoe in the middle of the night, competitively counting shooting stars (Billy won), listened to great music, talked about poetry and saw hail and rainbows on a date-like lunch at Eureka Cafe. It also might have been the year prior, when Amy spent many hours making a playlist for his birthday. Or when Billy would volunteer to pick her up from the airport. Perhaps it was when Billy drove down to San Diego after the Women’s March in LA to meet Amy for a symphony. Or maybe when they took the tram to the top of Mt San Jacinto together. It may have been all of those things. However it happened, they both finally realized they were in love. Billy proposed 6 months later and here we are (!)
