Amy was a medical student in Newark, NJ. Sayan was in marketing in New York City. If you think this was just a simple train ride away, you obviously know nothing of NYC. For their first date together, Sayan decided to impress. He used his formula for the perfect date (several changes in location and being generally charming you know). In fact, he put together one of the most elaborate dates ever: first, they would walk the High Line from start to finish, then go to Chelsea Market to grab a quick bite, and to end the date they would visit a few of the several art galleries in the area. He thought he was ready. When Amy heard Sayan's plan, she was a little nervous about how she could possibly spend all that time with one guy. As always, she showed up punctually at the high line. As always, Sayan was running late. He was stuck in traffic; his train was delayed and, thinking it would be faster, he had taken a cab (does he even know anything about NYC?). As Amy waited, she contemplated how she would best like to be seen when Sayan finally showed up: Should she sit on the bench with her long hair artfully placed around her face? Or should she read the board by the stairs to seem more intellectual? In the end, she had waited so long, read that board, and rearranged her hair so many times, that by the time Sayan arrived he found her on her phone. They started talking. They started walking. And soon both of their nerves disappeared. Sayan had thought he was ready for his perfectly planned date. But he could not have been prepared for them spending six hours just walking along the High Line and talking, never even getting to the rest of plans. Amy had been nervous about spending so long with one guy. Little did she know that so long would turn from one afternoon into an entire lifetime.
