A few months before their 2020 summer vacation to the Outer Banks, Mark took a ring that belonged to Amy's mother to a local jeweler and began a repurposing project. Since her mother had passed away in 1997, this ring was a treasured item of Amy's, because she had clear, vivid memories of it on her mother's finger. Mark chose this OBX trip to propose, because he wanted to do it at Jockey's Ridge, on a sand dune. He wanted to propose at a long-standing, permanent location, because the longevity had some symbolism for him. Jockey's Ridge has a storied history, and it'll be around after we're all long gone. Plus, we'll be able to visit Jockey's Ridge for years to come in order to re-live memories.
