We met in Orlando in the spring of 2008, and became great friends. Though there was a hint of something more, I moved away at the end of that year, and it took years of random visits and crossing paths before we finally connected in July of 2017. I was on my way to Orlando to help a friend with her new baby, when Facebook reminded me it was Brett's birthday. It had been a few years, so I suggested we get together for dinner to celebrate and catch up. After a happy, comfortable evening I finally asked, "Why did we never date?" And Brett took the opportunity to "See how it goes." ;) Over the next 5 weeks, with almost 5,000 miles and a 6-hour time difference between us, Brett called me every day, patiently putting up with my irrational doubts and fears. Then he met up with me in Alberta for a family reunion and epic road trip to the mountains. On August 29th he told me he loved me - in the middle of the Athabasca river in Jasper. Then a hurricane cancelled his return flight, so he bought a ticket to Hawaii and followed me home! The very next day, in the sweetest, simplest conversation, he asked me to marry him. And I gave him the biggest, happiest YES ever! After all those years of learning and growing and being apart, we are so ready to take on the rest of life's adventures together!!
