Question

What's the COVID-19 situation like in Barcelona and how will it impact the wedding?

Answer

First and foremost, the health and safety of our guests and vendors is our top priority. We are committed to following the laws and recommendations of the Spanish government and the country's top health officials during this unprecedented time. In our view, Spain has been very cautious and proactive in slowly pathing us to a "new normal." The vaccination rollout has been progressing well and the majority of the adult population should be fully vaccinated by the end of the summer, just in time for our wedding. You do not need to wear a mask outside walking around in the streets where it is not crowded or on the beaches. However, you will still see people wearing masks and maintaining safe distances where possible. As such, we recommend bringing your mask(s) with you at all times just to be safe because they will be necessary indoors, in taxis, and on public transit (bus, metro, restaurants, bars, museums, etc.).

Question

Where and how can I get my mandatory PCR test before returning to the United States?

Answer

Getting tested for Covid-19 is stressful enough so we found a simple solution for those of you who aren't comfortable finding a testing center here in Barcelona (but there are plenty and we can recommend a few). We suggest ordering a Rapid Return Test Kit and bringing it with you on your trip - https://covidtesting.cityhealthuc.com/rapidreturn - so that you don't have to worry about it! If you want to go to a clinic in person, here is a list of clinics for you to choose from: https://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com/en/covid/covid-19-pcr-test-in-barcelona.html However, we recommend this one (cheapest option we found so far, central location, results in 24 hours): https://democratest.com/test-pcr/ Other in person testing centers: https://iberitest.com/barcelona-es/ https://www.dam-health.com/es-barcelona-landing/ Remember: Test results must be within 72 hours before your arrival into the United States.

Question

I've never traveled to Spain before! What do I need to know?

Answer

Barcelona is a magical place, located in Spain's state of Catalunya. Aside from Spanish, you'll see and hear a lot of Catalan, the older language traditional to this region. Barcelona is a common vacation spot, so many people speak English and can help you get around (but don't be shy to try out any Spanish you do know!). Spanish food is notoriously incredible, and since we're right next to the sea, you'll enjoy some of the best seafood in the world! Barcelona has amazing architecture, from old gothic churches to modernist marvels. Check out the "Things To Do" recommendations we've compiled for you to get ideas of how to maximize your visit.

Question

What are those flags with the lone star and stripes hanging from people's balconies? I'm not great at world geography, but those aren't Spanish flags...

Answer

The Senyera Estelada, "starred flag" or "lone star flag", from estel, "star" is an unofficial flag typically flown by Catalan independence supporters to express their support for either an independent Catalonia or independent Països Catalans (Catalan Lands, the territories in which Catalan is traditionally spoken). There is long, complex, history behind this movement which you history buffs can read about before your trip but just keep in mind that not everyone in Barcelona is a fan of the Spanish government or a unified "Kingdom of Spain" for a variety of reasons. You shouldn't have any issues with these people and we recommend greeting locals at hotels, restaurants, bars, etc. with "Hola, bon dia" which is Catalan for "Hello, good morning/day."

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

We suggest staying close to the Cathedral of Barcelona, which is where the busses will shuttle guests to and from the wedding ceremony and reception. With plenty of Airbnbs and hotels in the area, you can choose what suits you best depending on your preferences. Please check the Travel section for more details about specific hotels and discounted rates. IMPORTANT: Like all major cities, there are parts you should avoid staying/going late at night so please do NOT stay in the Raval area due to its reputation for pickpockets and theft.

Question

How can I best prepare for my trip?

Answer

Before you leave: - Check the most up-to-date COVID travel requirements. Currently, if you have proof of vaccination then all you need is to fill out this entry form: https://www.spth.gob.es/. Please take extra consideration if you are laying over in another country before landing in Spain (ex: the UK) - Assure your passport is valid and not expired - Notify your credit card company of travel - Exchange some cash into Euros. Credit card is accepted almost everywhere, but it's good to have pocket change on hand! Note that tipping is much, much less than in the US; 1 or 2 euros is considered very generous for any priced meal. - Check with your mobile provider if they have any international plans to cover you internationally. Some have a per-day rate (ex: $10) to maintain your data abroad. If not, consider getting a Spanish SIM card when you land so you'll have pre-paid data to help you navigate! WhatsApp is the most popular messaging application we use to call/text for free via WiFi.

Question

Will there be transport to the wedding events?

Answer

Thursday's welcome dinner is right within the city so you'll have any easy time getting there by foot, public transit, or taxi! For Friday, we have group buses leaving at 2:50pm to take you to the event. Be sure to RSVP if you're joining us on the bus so we don't leave you behind! There will be a bus at the end of the night as well to get you back to the city. If you miss the bus or wish to leave at a different time than the coordinated group, then the venue is only about 30 minutes from Barcelona, so the taxi ride will be affordable. Andrea or Patricia at Bell Reco can coordinate the Taxi There is parking available at the venue for those who will not be imbibing alcoholic beverages and prefer their own transport.

Question

How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

Answer

The easiest option is to just take a regular taxi. The city regulates all taxis, meaning that they are metered correctly so you don't have to worry about getting over-charged. They also all accept credit cards! Even if they don't speak English (most do at least a little bit), just have the hotel name and address ready for them and you'll have no problems. You'll notice that Uber is banned in Barcelona. If you want to order cabs in the same way you would an Uber, just download the app FreeNow or Cabify! Otherwise, you can just easily flag any cab passing by with a green light on shining on top.

Question

By when should I RSVP?

Answer
