How We Met

November 2021

Nick and Amor met on the dating app Hinge, and from the very beginning, things were a little unexpected — in the best way. Nick picked Amor up from her apartment for the first date, and on the drive over, he wasted no time asking some very important questions, including, “Are you weird?” (A fair and necessary filter.) The first date was at the Tea Lounge at the Waldorf Astoria in Las Vegas — a beautiful and, as Nick later realized, very fancy ($$$) spot. At some point, realizing the upscale setting might be a once-in-a-lifetime date experience, Nick suggested to take a few photos to mark the occasion. To this day, they still have those pictures from the very first date. Amor was a bit shy at first, so Nick took the lead with the questions, making sure there was never a dull moment and I guess Amor answered Nick’s questions well because here they are all these years later.

Engagement

May 2025

Amor is not one for surprises—at least not the kind that interfere with planning her outfit—so naturally, she wanted to know when the proposal was happening. Nick agreed to share the date and a few small details, but he made sure to leave plenty of surprises in store. On the day of, they headed to Downtown Las Vegas to Peacock Alley—formerly the Tea Lounge at the Waldorf Astoria—where they had their very first date. Nick had reserved the corner booth for some privacy. When they arrived, Amor made a move to sit by the window, but Nick quickly stopped her, telling her she had to sit on the other side. She figured maybe it was about lighting for a photo op or something equally mysterious. As they started ordering, Amor asked for green tea, but Nick said no—she should get black tea instead. A little confused (and mildly annoyed at the sudden tea micromanagement), she asked why. “Because it matches your outfit,” he replied. Amor thought that was odd, but chalked it up to needing caffeine for the busy day ahead. When the tea and snacks arrived, Amor noticed their mugs looked different from the ones other guests had, but assumed they were part of some special reservation. Nick, meanwhile, kept glancing toward the door—Amor didn’t know it, but he was waiting for the photographer to arrive and catch the big moment. About a third of the way through her tea, Amor went to pour more, but again Nick stopped her. At this point, she was definitely side-eyeing all the bossiness—but decided to go with it. A few more sips in, she noticed a word appear at the bottom of her mug: "will." That’s when she knew something was up. She chugged the rest—and there it was: "Will you marry me?" Nick stood up, asked Amor to do the same, and got down on one knee to propose—right where it all began.
