Nick and Amor met on the dating app Hinge, and from the very beginning, things felt a little unexpected in the best way. For their first date, Nick offered to pick Amor up from her apartment, and on the drive over, he wasted no time asking the important questions. One of the first was, “Are you weird?” which turned out to be a pretty good way to break the ice. They went to the Tea Lounge at the Waldorf Astoria in Las Vegas, a beautiful spot that Nick later realized was a lot fancier than he expected. At some point, he suggested they take a few photos to remember the night, thinking it might be a once-in-a-lifetime kind of date. Those photos still exist, and they’re a sweet reminder of where it all started. Amor was a little shy at first, so Nick kept the conversation going and made sure there was never an awkward pause. Whatever she said must have been the right answers, because here they are, all this time later, still laughing, still asking each other questions, and still just as happy to be together
Amor isn’t usually a fan of surprises, at least not the kind that get in the way of planning an outfit, so she wanted to know when the proposal was happening. Nick agreed to share the date and a few small details, but he kept most of the plan a secret so there would still be some surprises along the way. On the day of, they headed to Downtown Las Vegas to Peacock Alley, formerly the Tea Lounge at the Waldorf Astoria, where they had their very first date. Nick had reserved a cozy corner booth, and when they arrived, Amor started to sit by the window. Nick quickly told her to sit on the other side instead. She figured it had something to do with lighting for a photo or something equally random. As they looked over the menu, Amor asked for green tea, but Nick insisted she get black tea instead. A little confused and slightly annoyed at the sudden tea-related opinions, she asked why. “Because it matches your outfit,” he said. Amor thought that was weird, but assumed he was just trying to make the day feel special. When the tea and snacks arrived, she noticed their mugs looked different from everyone else’s, but figured it was part of the reservation. Meanwhile, Nick kept glancing toward the door. Amor didn’t know it, but he was waiting for the photographer to arrive and capture the big moment. About a third of the way through her tea, Amor reached to pour more, but Nick stopped her again. By now, she was giving him some serious side-eye but decided to just go with it. A few sips later, a word appeared at the bottom of her mug: “will.” That’s when she knew something was up. She quickly finished the rest, and the full message came into view: “Will you marry me?” Nick stood up, asked Amor to do the same, and got down on one knee to propose right where it all began.
