Karla had recently surrendered her life to Jesus just a few months before in April. When she joined a freshman organization that fall, she stepped into it with boldness and a fire for Jesus. The organization was not Christian, but Karla walked in with purpose, ready to share the gospel and be the light of Christ wherever she went. At the groups first event, Karla met Nathan. Their very first conversation was a simple one: Nathan asked what kind of music she listened to at the gym. Without hesitation, Karla answered, “Worship.” Nathan raised an eyebrow and said, “That’s kinda weird.” It was a lighthearted conversation, but something Nathan had never seen before had begun. After a few interactions here and there, in January, the group took a trip to Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Karla came with a servant’s heart and a desire to love everyone there the way God loves them; loving them unconditionally. Nathan noticed how different she was. He watched her, how she served, how she smiled, how she carried peace, how she loved without judgement. He abruptly asked her, “Why are you so nice?” Karla’s response was simple and sincere: “I love the Lord.” That led to a 30-minute conversation where she shared her testimony of how Jesus had changed her life. Nathan was moved. Philippians 1:6 says, “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” That night, Karla saw a good work begin in Nathan. When she stepped away to talk to God privately, she didn’t ask God to change his life—she thanked Him, in full faith, knowing that He already was. That’s the kind of faith she had. A faith that believed without needing to see. Later, when Karla prayed about who the Lord wanted her to be intentional with in the organization, she heard one name: Nathan. Soon after, Karla and Nathan began meeting every Tuesday for Bible study, walking through the book of John together. Nathan came with questions, hunger, and a desire to learn. Their time together was never romantic, it was sacred and purposeful. Karla knew she was being trusted with Nathan’s soul and that mattered more than anything else. There were no blurred lines, no mixed intentions, just discipleship, friendship, and a desire to honor the Lord. That summer, Karla left for Florida to be part of a ministry program. She kept checking in on Nathan, calling once a week, and faithfully praying for him, setting aside time every Monday to intercede on his behalf. Nathan was still up and down in his faith, but God was not finished. On September 5th, after the new school year began, Karla and two of her friends practically begged Nathan to let them come visit him. He was in a tough season and feeling low. But that night, when they walked into his apartment, something shifted. Nathan encountered the Holy Spirit in a powerful way. The presence of God filled the room and Nathan fell to his knees and surrendered his life to Jesus. Everything changed. From that day forward, Nathan began to grow. He became a praying man. A man of the Word. A man after Gods own heart. And when he asked Karla if he could pursue her, she took it to prayer and said yes. People often ask Karla, “How can you believe in God when you can’t see Him?” But when Karla looks at Nathan she is seeing God. She is seeing God’s hand by the way He is transforming Nathan from the inside out. They began dating, not casually, but intentionally. A month later, Nathan asked Karla to be his girlfriend. As followers of Jesus, they knew this relationship wasn’t just about fun, it was about calling, about purpose, about marriage. About a covenant reflecting our covenant with Christ.

They began praying daily for wisdom, for guidance, and for mentors. And in God’s perfect timing, their prayers were answered. On a Monday afternoon at Chipotle, they met Cristian and Evelin, two mentors they instantly knew were heaven-sent. Another confirmation. Another step forward. Together, Karla and Nathan began asking God not just if, but when. They assumed after graduation would be best. But God had a different timeline. Karla went to a retreat where a prophetic woman spoke a word over her: “God is doing something new. A transition. A new position. A new title. And it’s happening now—not later.” At the time, Karla didn’t fully understand. She thought maybe it was a new job or mindset. But the Lord was speaking of something greater. Soon after, she and Nathan had a choice between two Christian conferences. They prayed and felt led to attend the one in Houston. Before it began, Nathan looked at Karla and asked, “What are you hoping God speaks to you about?” She said she was open. Then she asked him the same. His reply: “I want to know when I’m marrying you.” Eight sessions passed. Nothing. Then, in the last ten minutes of the final session, the speaker paused unexpectedly and asked the crowd, “Do you know when Moses got married?... In the desert. Do you know for what?... For a transition.” At that moment, Karla and Nathan looked at each other. They knew. It was now. Nathan looked at Karla with a face of realization and said “your new title is you’re going to be a wife.” They had often described their season as a desert season, waiting, hoping, crying out for direction towards inner healing. And now, the word was clear: the transition was marriage. They took the word to prayer. God confirmed it again and again. So they moved by faith. Yes, they are young. Yes, it’s countercultural. Yes, it may seem wild to the world. But they’re not led by the world, they’re led by the Spirit of God. God spoke August 16 to them and they looked up what that number meant biblically and it means a new thing! Give Him praise! God often time and time again in scripture places His people in situations where only He can take the credit, the glory, and the honor. And now, as they stand at the altar, surrounded by their loved ones, they have only one thing to say: “We take no credit for this. This was all you God.” And that is their love story.

Ella oró… y dijo que sí. Su noviazgo fue intencional, con Jesús en el centro. Un mes después, Nathan le pidió que fuera su novia. Ella aceptó. Sabían que el noviazgo no era para pasar el rato, sino para buscar confirmación de Dios sobre un futuro juntos: el matrimonio. Oraban todos los días por dirección y por mentores espirituales. Y un lunes cualquiera, comiendo en Chipotle, conocieron a Cristian y Evelin. Sintieron paz, confirmación, y supieron que Dios había respondido. Después de eso, comenzaron a preguntarle a Dios no solo si debían casarse, sino cuándo. Pensaban que lo mejor era esperar hasta graduarse. Pero Dios tenía otros planes. Karla asistió a un retiro, donde una mujer profética le dio una palabra de parte de Dios: “Dios está haciendo algo nuevo. Una transición. Una nueva posición. Un nuevo título. Y está sucediendo ahora, no después.” Al principio, Karla pensó que se trataba de un nuevo trabajo o una nueva mentalidad. Pero Dios hablaba de algo más profundo.

Poco tiempo después, Karla y Nathan tenían que elegir entre dos conferencias cristianas. Oraron, y el Espíritu los guió a una en Houston. Antes de comenzar, Nathan miró a Karla y le preguntó: “¿Qué esperas que Dios te diga en esta conferencia?” Ella respondió que estaba abierta a lo que Él quisiera. Entonces le preguntó a él, y Nathan dijo: “Quiero saber cuándo me voy a casar contigo.” Pasaron ocho sesiones sin ninguna respuesta. Pero en los últimos diez minutos de la última sesión, el predicador se detuvo de repente y dijo: “¿Saben cuándo se casó Moisés?...En el desierto. Sabes por que?...Por que era tiempo de transición.” Karla y Nathan se miraron. Supieron en ese instante que esa palabra era para ellos. Ellos siempre habían llamado a su etapa actual una “temporada en el desierto”, esperando el siguiente paso de Dios para sanar sus corazones. Y ese día, Dios les dijo claramente: el matrimonio era la transición. Llevaron esa palabra a oración. Dios la confirmó. Una y otra vez. Así que tomaron la decisión: caminar por fe. Sí, son jóvenes. Sí, parece loco. Sí, va en contra de lo que muchos hacen hoy en día. Pero no siguen a la cultura—siguen a Cristo. Y Él nunca ha fallado. Y nunca los fallara. Dios les dijo Agosto 16 para la boda y buscaron que significa ese numero en la biblia y significa algo nuevo! Hallelujah! Una y otra vez, Dios coloca a Su gente en situaciones donde solo Él puede recibir el crédito, la gloria y el honor. Ahora, mientras se preparan para decir “sí, acepto”, quieren mirar a cada uno de ustedes en el altar y decir con todo el corazón: “No tomamos crédito por nada de esto. Todo ha sido por Jesús.” Y esa es su historia de amor.
