Amanda and Mason’s future hung by a thread, the off chance that they both swiped right on each-other on the newest dating app. After their first date Mason knew this was going to be the woman he would ask to marry him. Amanda felt a slow burn coming to fruition. As they laughed on dates both indoors and outdoors, they grew closer and closer to one another. As time went on they were inseparable, living just 10 minutes away from each other it felt like light years when they were apart. Then the opportunity arose to move into a breathtaking apartment with a bay-front view just three doors down from Amanda. After a month or two of careful deliberation they decided to move in together! Since then, they have always happily been within arms reach of one another. February the next year rolled around and after meticulously planning a trip to Italy with each other, he knew this had to be THE time. Something he’s thought about every single day since they uttered their first words to each other at Dukes in La Jolla. As they traversed through Italy Mason was protecting the ring with his life from pickpockets and thieves until they arrived in Cinque Terre. The morning finally came that he was going to be able to ask the woman of his dreams to be his partner for the rest of his life. As they were at their morning pesto making class the weather became that of nightmares. Sweat rolling down his face as he was emailing the photographers back and forth to make sure it was still a go. Plans changed we had to move to another harbor to get picked up and in a moments notice Mason booked train tickets to a nearby village to hop on the boat for a “sunset cruise”. The vibes were fantastic, it was only sprinkling rain as the music blared and the Aperol Spritzes poured in. But they continued further and further away from land and it became what looked like an apocalypse on the water. Frantically the captain made a move to head back to the bay where they came from. Mason, drenched in water, stood up on the bow of the boat as they got closer to the bay of La Spezia. He turned to the photographers and shrugged as if to say “it’s now or never.” The captain of the boat distracted Amanda dancing with her to draw attention away from Mason sifting through the bag holding the ring that he’d been protecting with his life for over a week now. Mason jumps back on the bow of the boat with Amanda, dancing with her in his arms. He knows he needs to distract her to make his move to get down on one knee, so he tries to divert attention to the “dolphins” swimming in the water. Amanda is too smart though, she knows by now exactly what is going on here. Reluctantly she turns around to appease him, eager to face Mason again and see the ring. As she turns, her intuition was spot on. There he is on one knee asking her to spend the rest of his life with her while “we’re up all night to get lucky” plays in the background (wasn’t their choice). After that the celebration continued with a slight alteration. Mason had booked the most romantic dinner in all of Cinque Terre but time ran out and the last train took off down the tracks. So they settled for an even more romantic feast of Italian McDonalds to finish off the night. The most perfectly imperfect moment to start off the rest of their lives together. - Mason Guerrette, Groom
