Much like anyone who grew up in Columbia County, PJ and Amelia seemed to always know of each other, but can't actually remember officially meeting at any point. Looking back, there were a lot of missed connections that each remembers that seemed to lead up to their true love story. The first memory of each other they can pinpoint was one summer while PJ was working at Camp Victory as a dishwasher/lifeguard/rockwall instructor and Amelia was volunteering at Camp Ability. Amelia remembers seeing him around and the nervous feeling of needing to climb “really fast” up the rockwall in case PJ was watching. PJ recalls once that he was helping campers put on their harness and Amelia was there, confident and sure she didn’t need his help, when in reality she did (this was an unknown foreshadowing of their relationship). Another memorable moment they both recall was Amelia’s freshman year and PJ’s senior year at Millville during a high school soccer game. Amelia was standing on the sidelines, waiting to sub in and the Millville student section started chanting “MCL Tear,” a nickname affectionately given to Amelia by a friend of PJ’s. It was a moment for Amelia feeling like a rockstar, and for PJ, it was simply just some good-natured heckling. Seven years had gone by before their paths crossed again. In the summer of 2018, Amelia was finishing up her last week at Wagner’s before heading back to Millersville for her senior year. PJ was just beginning his role as the new Millville Athletic Director and had a few trophies to pick up for a soccer tournament. Amelia called to let him know they were ready, and ended up leaving a voicemail and was back to college by the time PJ made it to the store to pick them up. The real fun begins a few months later when Amelia was home for Thanksgiving break. One night, PJ approached her and exclaimed “MCL Tear?!” to which Amelia responded, “I don’t know who you are, but you must be from Millville.” They shared a laugh and started to talk about what they were doing with their lives. PJ complimented the chemistry shirt Amelia was wearing, and she told him that she was finishing up her bachelor's degree in chemistry, but was heading to grad school for Sports Management. PJ knew this was his window and shared that he was the youngest Athletic Director in the state of PA and that he would be happy to answer any questions she had about the field. Amelia gave him her number and they went back to their separate friend groups. Amelia woke up the next morning with a text from PJ saying how great it was to see her again and that he “absolutely loves coffee and it would be nice to hang out again when the semester was over.” So, they made a plan to grab breakfast at Bloomin Bagels the first weekend she was back in town. After that morning at Bloomin, the two seemed to be inseparable. They spent much of the winter break together, including a girls’ basketball tournament hosted at Bloomsburg University where both Millville and Bloomsburg were playing. A few days later, PJ was game managing back at Millville, and a fan asked if Amelia was his girlfriend because they were laughing a lot at the tournament. When PJ brought this up to Amelia, she said “I guess you can start telling people that I’m your girlfriend.” And the rest is history. PJ and Amelia share so many interests and values that anyone who knew them separately before dating, or know them now as a soon-to-be married couple, know that the two of them make perfect sense together. They are so excited for the next chapter in their journey together, growing together, traveling together, and simply enjoying life together.
