Flight
We've found that prices for flights to NOLA in October tend to drop around May-July. There are apps you can download that will notify you when prices for your trip hit the lowest or when its the best time to buy. Try Hopper, Skyscanner, Momondo, or CheapOair. There are also other apps and websites that help with this.
Train
We took the train from Chicago to New Orleans last year. Though the ride was long, the train had very spacious economy seats, plenty of bathroom options, dinning options, electrical outlets at your seat and all through the train, and a View Cart that is completely windows with booths and chairs open 24 hours. Sleeper cabins are also available for purchase as well.
Rental Car
For anyone looking for a road trip! We suggest taking a friend or a couple of friends to share driving time. The first time we went to New Orleans we drove, it took us 18 hours to drive straight through. Not too bad with the right playlist and good conversation.

Hotel
For our more adventurous and penny saving guest, a hostel is a great option! Private rooms available or dorm style rooms. Many of the hostels offer specials, happy hours or open bars, discounts on tourist activities around the city and it is a great way to meet new friends! We’ve stayed in hostels every time we’ve traveled to New Orleans and each time we’ve had a great experience!
House Or Rental
This is usually the cheapest way to go. The open home/apartment market in New Orleans is very large so there are different options to fit every budget.
