Blake and I met in 2011. My older brother, Ethan, befriended Blake at youth group back at the Drive Center. Blake started coming around with their 6 person posy. Now if you did not know, Blake and I are six and a half years a part so at this time on the timeline, I was 10/11 and Blake was 16/17. So obviously he paid me no mind....lol awkward. But funny enough I had a massive crush on Blake and our good friend and groomsmen, Chris Stacey. Chris stayed in my life consistently and became an older brother figure to me alongside being one of Ethan's best friends. A few years passed and Blake graduated and went off to college and lived his life for about 8 years and I didn't see him much but every few years. He came back around more consistently in 2019 to church and we all hung out with the same group of friends. Blake and I begin to hang out and have our own friendship in late 2019. By August 2020 Blake and I were hanging out a lot, talking on the phone all the time, texting constantly. But we very Facetime because Blake had an Android until we were 4 months into dating. Hurricane Laura hit that month and I went to Dallas and he went to College Station. Blake called me to wake me up, 3 plus times during the day, and when we would go to bed. LONGGGG phone calls...that's when I knew he really "like-liked" me. By October we still were officially dating but he definitely made gumbo for 40 people for my 21st birthday. But by November we went to dinner to lay everything out on the table to see if this was what we felt it was the Lord for us and if it would work. We went to Pho Bamboo in Beaumont and sat and talked for about two hours. We had such great, deep, connecting conversations over those bowls of Pho. On November 18th, Blake asked me to be his girlfriend. And of course I said yes! I've been in love with this dude since I was 10 years old!!
I met Amaris at a very pivotal time in my life. I was a young teenager who had only begun to know the fullness of the Lord. I would spend days with her older brother at their parents house doing whatever, but Amaris was always around. As time went by I started down a path that would take me away from the entire Berwick family for a long while. Fast forward about ten years, and again I find myself getting to know Jesus on an entirely new level of fullness. I had agreed, reluctantly, to tag along to church at Redemption and that’s where she comes in. Not the little girl I had remembered from all those years back, but a Godly and wise woman. Also strikingly beautiful. We went for crawfish and I knew I had developed feelings already, although I wasn’t quite ready to admit it. We were on and off for a bit, mainly because I still had incorrect ideas of what life or relationships were meant to be… In the two years that we have been together, navigating life and figuring each other out, we’ve made major strides. She’s taught me to be a man of my word. What daily commitment to the Lord could bring forth in my life and how to work hard for the things that I want… and most importantly, to value prayer and worship. My hope is that our love will grow at the same rate, every day, the same way it always has.
