A little geography to answer this question: There are three main parts to Big Sky: 1) the Canyon 2) the Meadow/Town Center 3) and the Base/Mountain/Resort area See the map we added in the "Photos" tab above for reference. See "Where can I eat in ____" to find a place in any of these locations. For your reference, you drive south from Bozeman into Big Sky on the Canyon Road. You then make a right (heading west) into the Meadow/Town Center and, if you choose, proceed west to the Base/Resort/Mountain area (where The Lodge at Big Sky is located, for those of you staying there). Please note that there are no 24-hour joints like McDonald’s or 7-11 within an hour of Big Sky. There is a grocery store in the Town Center called Roxy’s. And there are quite a few places to grab something quick--Hungry Moose (one in the Town Center and one in the Resort area) is a nice mini mart with a gourmet deli. If you plan on going out to eat, we HIGHLY recommend you make reservations in advance (now).
Typical Montana BBQ Joints: The Coral Riverhouse Hotel Restaurant: Rainbow Ranch – the location of our wedding reception, but it also has a restaurant if you want to grab a meal there
Italian Food Michaelangelo’s – very good food, but pricey Pizza Ousel and Spur – pretty good, has outdoor seating Milkies – pub bar pizzeria; open Monday to Friday only Pinky G’s Bar/Bar Food Choppers – not necessarily recommended or even great food, but you can probably get in here if other places are packed Tips Up – similar to Choppers Thai Food The Lotus Pad – used to be really good; maybe not as good in recent years. Only option for Thai though! Chinese Food The China Café – decent Chinese takeout (or eat in). Yeah, you blend. American Fare/Bar Olive B – might be pricey Fancy Bistro By Word of Mouth Mini Mart/Deli The Hungry Moose – upscale bodega/very limited grocery store. Gourmet deli that makes pretty good sandwiches. Alcohol available here as well. Grab a sandwich here to take on a hike or to Music in the Mountains Mexican Food Alberto’s – pretty good Mi Pueblito Taco Bus – Never been, but it’s a taco bus in the Ace Hardware parking lot. 50/50 shot on being either the best or the worst Mexican food you’ve ever had. Sushi Blue Buddha Sushi Lounge – think it’s new. Don’t know much about it.
Tavern/Restaurant Chet’s – located in the Huntley Lodge Hotel Restaurant Huntley Dining Room – also in the Huntley Lodge. Biggest breakfast buffet in America, apparently. Mini Mart/Deli The Hungry Moose – think upscale bodega/very limited grocery store. Gourmet deli that makes pretty good sandwiches. Alcohol available here as well. Grab a sandwich here to take on a hike or to Music in the Mountains Italian Andiamo – good Italian restaurant Hot Dogs Yeti Dogs – gourmet hot dogs and ice cream Lounge with a View Caribeener – craft cocktails and global-inspired menu. Located in the Summit Hotel Saloon Scissorbill’s – pub grub and drinks. Kitchen open til 10pm, bar open til midnight Bar and Grill The Cabin Bar and Grill – casual fine dining Food Hall Vista Hall (formerly The Exchange) – many options. Like a mall food court, but nice. Has a deli, a grill, a café, a pizzeria, sushi, tacos, and a bar.

We HIGHLY recommend you rent a car. There are no taxi, Lyft, or Uber services in Big Sky. Please note that last summer, cars became very difficult to rent due to the high demand. Please book early. Another option is to use www.turo.com, which is a website to rent privately owned vehicles.

Big Sky is located at a high altitude, which means there is less oxygen. Please be aware that simple activities such as climbing a set of stairs may cause you to feel short of breath. Higher altitudes can also cause dehydration, so please make sure to drink a TON of water. Lastly, never hike alone, and always bring bear spray!
A block of rooms is held at The Big Sky Lodge. For other hotel recommendations, please refer to the travel page. Please note that the Big Sky Base area hotels (The Big Sky Lodge and The Huntley) are at a slightly higher elevation.
