When we first started planning, we knew that we wanted to make the focus of our wedding the food and drinks, just like we do in our everyday life. Iron Gate is consistently ranked a top restaurant in DC, and we felt there was no more appropriate venue than buying out a whole restaurant that is known as the most romantic location in DC.
We chose to host our wedding at Iron Gate because of the part it has played in DC's history. The restaurant is in a classic Dupont Circle townhome that was built in 1875 and later the location of a Women's Club (how progressive!). What is now the main restaurant (and where dinner will take place) was once the horses' stable, and even still has the original stall dividers between some tables. The bar area, where we will host our cocktail reception, was once a carriageway used to store buggies. In the 1920's, the club gifted the space to Marie Mount, who was the Dean of the University of Maryland, our alma mater. She named the space the Iron Gate.
We chose to welcome you all at Shibuya because it is a very special location for us. It is located in the Adams Morgan, about a 3 minute walk from our home, and our hope is that it will offer you a taste of our neighborhood. Before it was converted into Shibuya, we had been frequenting the bar since 2016 when it was known as Bourbon. It was where we decided to move in together, where we planned our first big vacation, where we watched the Caps win the Stanley Cup, and we even have an old Bourbon menu hanging in our hallway. We're thrilled to be able to make another special memory in the space.
No, we will not be hosting children this weekend.
Good question. It could be 45° or 85°. Our hope is that you'll get a taste of a perfect autumn weekend in DC, but fret not if it doesn't go our way. The welcome event is all indoors, and while the wedding is indoor/outdoor, Iron Gate provides heaters and tents. Thanks to the pandemic, they are outfitted for comfortable outdoor dining.
No. We are in the heart of the city, so there will be street parking and garages, which are hard to come by and expensive, respectively. We encourage you to leave your cars at home or at the hotel.
No. Our hotel blocks and recommendations were chosen for their proximity to the events, especially the wedding. You should be able to walk (even in heels!) to the wedding, but there are plenty of taxis and ride-sharing apps that will be available with ease.
