How We Met

Her Version

Tommy and I met in college at UW-Madison. We shared a major, so we had a lot of classes together, but it wasn’t until our junior year that our paths really crossed. I vividly remember Tommy walking into the first day of our junior design class – making a loud entrance about 5 minutes late with a coffee in hand (this won't come as a surprise for those of you who know Tommy). We ended up getting assigned to the same group project team and after class I went home and told my roommates about “the cute Sig Ep in my group project.” For the rest of the semester, we spent every Thursday building a robot together (nerdy we know) and chatting with Tommy made the 3-hour class more bearable. He even managed to get me to engage in small talk with him outside of class, which is quite the feat if you know how I can be. When the semester was over, we wished each other a good summer and truthfully I kind of forgot about him. Flash forward to the start of senior year… I had just moved into my apartment and I was riding the elevator with my roommate and best friend, Meaghan. The elevator doors opened and there was Tommy moving into the same apartment building. We exchanged quick hellos and as we walked away Meag turned to me saying "ok who was that???" After that followed many Chipotle dates, daily walks to Engineering Hall, a few Kappa Krush Parties, and countless nights spent at the world's best bar (KK forever ♥). Tommy ended up deciding to break his “no girlfriends senior year” rule (sorry boys!) and the rest is history…. 6 years later and here we are!

How We Met

His Version

The first time I met Amanda was during my junior year of college where I was lucky enough to find myself in a group project with her. I remember thinking how smart, funny, and pretty she was. As the semester went on, I started developing a crush on Amanda and was always finding ways to talk to her in and out of class. I am sure Amanda thought I was the most annoying group project mate of all time. My attempts included asking her if she had a stapler to start a conversation, which she obviously did not have. For those of you who do not know Amanda, she has very little time for stupid questions, so she looked at me like ‘what kind of question is that.’ Didn’t matter to me, I shook it off and told myself that I would come with a better game plan next time. That semester wrapped up with numerous attempts by me to talk to Amanda in class, but nothing more. As I was moving into my apartment to start senior year, I ran into Amanda in the lobby of the apartment building. We did not have more than a 30 second conversation, but I remember being excited that she was living in the same building as me as this meant that I could maybe steal a few long walks to and from class with her. After a few weeks, I finally asked Amanda to get dinner with me after class. I brought her to my favorite spot on campus, Chipotle, very romantic. Even though I was a terrible first-date, even forgetting to pay for her quesadilla, I somehow won her over and she has been unable to get rid of me since!
