Take a stroll through Waikiki! This is a great place to watch the sunset, whether hanging out on Waikiki Beach, sipping a Mai Tai at Dukes, Rumfire, or one of the many other beachfront restarant/bars, or up on a rooftop (SKY bar has great views). (If you plan to watch the sunset at a beachfront bar, get there early!) You can go shopping at the international marketplace, Waikiki Shopping Plaza, or the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. There are also hula shows at Kuhio beach every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 6:30.
Hanauma Bay is probably the most famous snorkeling place on Oahu. There is an entry fee of $7.50 and $1.00 to park (There are shuttles available from Waikiki Hotels if needed). It is open 6AM-6PM Wednesday-Monday (Closed on Tuesdays). Please make sure to apply reef-safe sunscreen. It gets pretty crowded and parking is limited, so we recommend getting there early.
The coastal drive to the North Shore has amazing views and the central route (99/Kamehameha Highway) goes past the Dole Plantation (Pineapples!). If your’re lucky, you may see some turtles at Laniakea Beach (aka Turtle Beach) Go snorkeling at Shark’s Cove/ Pupukea Tide Pools. (There are shallow areas that you can look and see fish in from above. Wear water shoes, the rocks are sharp) Go out for a nice dinner at Haleiwa Joe’s Grab some shave ice at Matsumoto Go cage diving with sharks! There is also the famous Turtle Bay resort to stay at, or just grab a drink at!
Our wedding will take place on this property, but there is a lot to explore. It is where many films have been made like Jurassic Park, Godzilla, and Jumanji. They offer zip lining, ATVs, Mountain biking, kayaking, and more.
Kayak to the Mokes (Mokulua Islands)! Kailua Beach Adventures offers rentals on kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and more. What is nice about them is that they are within walking distance to the beach, so you don’t need a large vehicle to transport them. We like to paddle to the Mokes, which are a pair of islands off of Lanikai/Kailua. I believe you need permits when renting kayaks to land there, which are available from Kailua Beach Adventures every day but Sunday. There are so many places to rent equipment from and to explore, this is just one that we like on the Windward side.
This is our favorite place to catch she sunrise. Get up early (or not) for a pretty easy (20 minutes-ish) hike up to the pillboxes.
