We love our story. We met at Kelly and Larry's wedding. Kelly is Amanda's best friend and Daniel's cousin. Amanda knew Kelly her whole life and didn't meet Daniel until her wedding. The crazy thing is that Amanda and Daniel may have been around each other during childhood and not known it. After all, Daniel did grow up about 3 minutes down the road from Amanda's grandparents. Daniel asked Amanda to be his girlfriend 7 days after they met at Kelly and Larry's wedding, bought her a promise ring, and told her he loved her not long after. Amanda lived in Tennessee and Daniel lived in Washington, so they did long distance for 8 months until Amanda made the move out to Washington. Everyone thought things were happening too fast in the beginning, and so did we, but we just knew from the moment we met that we had found the one. This is our happily ever after. Or should we say, HappiLEE ever Oakey :)
It was Thanksgiving 2020 and we were spending it in Washington with Daniel's family. After dinner we did an ornament exchange. Everyone picked a number and Amanda got number 14 (the last number). Amanda's box was marked with hearts so that everyone knew not to pick that one (yes, everyone was in on it). So when Amanda picked the last box and opened it, it wasn't an ornament, but a ring. She looked at Daniel in disbelief and he didn't say anything. Then she said, "Are you going to ask me?!" and then Daniel said, "Will you marry me?" and Amanda was so overjoyed and hugged him. Then he stated, "So are you going to answer me?!" She said, "Yes." It was such a fun proposal and such a funny exchange of questions. Best Thanksgiving ever.
