Wedding Party

Meet the people in the wedding

Margaret Wood

Maid of Honor

Margaret and I met in 2017 during orientation to teach 105 and instantly bonded over our mutual hatred of icebreakers like “what kind of potato are you?” We have had so much fun together ever since. We get a little wild, we laugh a lot, and we share a deep love of critical thinking and zero tolerance for nonsense. She’s brilliant, hilarious, and one of my favorite people to both rant and celebrate with.

Kahla Black

Maid of Honor

Kahla is my actual sister. We absolutely hated each other in high school, which makes it even better that now she’s one of my best friends. She is the only person on earth who knows my childhood exactly the way I do. She’s a party animal, wildly fun, occasionally mean in the funniest way, and secretly one of the most sensitive people I know. I love her more than words.

Stephanie Borria

Maid of Honor

Stephanie and I met in seventh grade when we were thirteen, which means we’ve been friends for twenty-three years!!!! I thought she was mean at first because she has legendary RBF, but she is actually one of the sweetest humans alive (if she likes you). We laugh a lot and we bond over books, and she constantly convinces me to read darkest, most intensely weird stories that somehow make me more empathetic. She just gets me.

Jackie Van Densen

Maid of Honor

Jackie and I met at SDSU fourteen years ago (!!!!!) and have basically grown up together. She has been there through my worst breakups, her divorce, multiple moves, Comic-Con adventures, and life in San Diego, Georgia, and Thailand. We share a deep love of nerd culture, especially Pokémon, slightly irresponsible Labubu purchases, and trips to Hawaii and London. She has seen every version of me and never flinched.

Kim Borria

Maid of Honor

Stephanie’s little sister and now basically mine by time and default. If Stephanie matches my introverted book-nerd side, Kim matches my outgoing, bubbly, let’s-go-do-something side. She brings warmth and laughter wherever she goes, and I feel so lucky to have both of them in my life.

Audra Travelbee

Maid of Honor

I met Audra about three years ago in Flagstaff, and we quickly found ourselves working closely together in the nonprofit world. We’ve worked side by side at Culture Connection AZ and the Literacy Center, gone to see Lady Gaga together, and had some very dark but very real conversations about life (usually at least twice a week, no matter how optimistic we start). I love the way her brain works. She cares deeply about people and justice, and she makes everything more fun.

Ehren DuRose

Maid of Honor

Ehren worked for me at the Literacy Center and quickly became family. He is a true Gen Z icon and Ms. Gay Flagstaff, and yes, he absolutely slays. He’s a sensitive Cancer like my sister, full of heart, empathy, and chaotic good energy. He is one of the most genuine humans I know and I’m so grateful he’s in our lives.

Kevin Hirschi

Officiant

Kevin and I met in our PhD program and later worked together at the Literacy Center. Somewhere between academic chaos and nonprofit life, he became one of my favorite humans. He lives in Texas now and I miss him every single day. I miss his gourmet cooking parties, having his steady voice when I’m making big work decisions, and especially laughing way too hard at everything. He is thoughtful, brilliant, an excellent dog parent, and the exact person we want marrying us.

Ofelia Black

Mother of the Bride

Ofelia is technically my aunt, but she adopted my sister and me and has been my mom in every way that matters. She is an absolute angel. She is sweet, steady, and endlessly caring. She has been the very best mother figure I could have ever asked for, and I feel so lucky that she is my family. Everything good in me has been nurtured by her love.

Ben Black

Father of the Bride

My dad loves me in a way that feels like safety. The kind that lets you take risks, make big decisions, and believe you can build whatever life you want. He’s where I get my sense of humor. He’s painfully shy, quietly hilarious, and sometimes a bit of a teaser, but beneath it all, he has the softest heart. He is fiercely loyal, and his love has never once been conditional. He has always been in my corner.

Amanda & Carlo

Bride & Groom

Carlo has no idea what he's getting into...
