Amanda Ruffino first noticed Brian Banas in the med school cafeteria in Scranton, PA—he was surrounded by flashcards and visibly stressed about an exam. Curious, she asked her friends who he was. That same night, they officially met at a party through mutual friends and hit it off. Over the next five years, they navigated the ups and downs of medical school together and are now both residents, still side by side.
