Planning Your Stay

We are currently vetting reputable hotels and transportation options. Stay tuned! In the meantime, here are a few helpful things to keep in mind while looking for accommodations: 1) Triple-check the location "Near the center" can still mean a 90-minute bus ride. Use Google Maps to check walking distance, train/metro stops, elevation, and whether it's inside a ZTL (restricted traffic zone). ZTL will be important if you are driving and need to park but also how close a taxi or uber can get to your stay. 2) Know your floors + elevators In Italy, piano terra = ground floor, primo piano = one flight up. Some elevators only start on the 1st floor, so you might haul luggage up stairs first. Always ask how many steps there are and how big the elevator is. 3) Beds are tricky A matrimoniale might mean two twins pushed together, and sofa beds aren't always in the photos. Confirm exact sleeping arrangements in writing before you book. 4) Check the basics: Wi-Fi, AC, etc Confirm that there's working Wi-Fi, and whether the place has air conditioning- many rentals shut off AC in shoulder season even if it's hot. 5) City tax reminder Many Italian cities charge a nightly tax (tassa di soggiorno). It's usually a few euros per person per night and often has to be paid in cash at check-in. Ask the host ahead so you're not caught off guard. 6) Bonus tip: read reviews like a detective Hit Control + F (or Command + F) and search for keywords like "elevator, "bed," "location," and "street noise."
