Maid of Honor
The shorter bat with bangs? Yup, that’s me. Maggie Vidal, a supposed grown up and Alyssa’s Maid of Honor. Not necessarily the way I originally thought I would introduce myself to Alyssa and Juan’s extended family and friends, but I think it’s fitting. Despite 12 years of friendship, Alyssa and I have never pulled off a “normal” picture. When I clicked through our Facebook photos, I came up with images of smashing cake into each other’s faces, drunken pouts on the beach, and a few that are too embarrassing to describe…but honestly? I like this facet of our friendship. When I take inventory, I can tally years of living together at URI, miles run together, and pots of coffee we’ve brewed, but the most notable part of our friendship is that we have spent more time laughing than talking. Take it from me. When you find the people who make you laugh, keep them. These are the people who make the hard parts of life bearable. I am so excited that Alyssa has a partner who is not just a romantic match, but someone who brings fun to their relationship. As Alyssa and Juan have evolved from friends to husband and wife, my favorite part has been seeing how goofy and playful they are. This lightness in their relationship will protect them when life doesn’t play nice. They can count on each other for both support and fun. While I’m saving the champagne for the big day, right now I’m raising a glass to my best friend and her future of love and laughs. Cheers & see you all in July!
Best Woman
Hi! My name is Mahalia Bergeron and I have the absolute honor of introducing myself as Juan's best person. After going through 13 years of photos and not finding a single one good enough for an occasion such as this, I decided to choose one that exemplifies our amazing friendship: me being uncomfortably awkward in front of a camera and Juan making me laugh my ass off over something completely inappropriate. Juan and I met freshman year at URI, and it was absolutely not an immediate connection. But after some time and a small disagreement about a water bottle and a tree, our friendship blossomed into the beautiful thing it is today. To give you some insight into our friendship, we spent most of our 20s staying up late, watching scary movies, and eating an impressive amount of ice cream together. Not much has changed, actually, except now we have Alyssa to add to the fun! I couldn't hope for a better person to add into the mix, and more importantly, a better partner for Juan. I'm so, so excited to celebrate Juan and Alyssa's marriage with all of you! See you in July!
