Activities at Heartwood include volleyball, basketball, miles of hiking/biking trails, swimming beach, canoeing, tubes, Frisbee golf and much more. There is a restaurant on site with a full menu and bar.
The Namekagon River runs adjacent to the Heartwood property and Heartwood caters to driving folks to a launch point on the river for a tubing adventure. If you want a true immersion into the Northwoods experience, plan on spending a few hours floating down the Namekagon. Its waters are clear and crisp and you are bound to see all different types of flora and fauna of the region.
What's not to love about a small town with the two largest fresh water fish in the world? If rain comes its way during the wedding weekend and you're itching for a drive, Hayward is known for its massive man-made muskie that is a part of the National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame as well as the worlds largest muskie hanging at Moccasin Bar that is a world famous dive bar in its own rights. It's a short drive from Heartwood and hosts many fun activities.
This is a recommendation for any guests making a longer weekend trip out of the wedding. If you want to take a day trip to be a part of a landscape that will truly awe and amaze you we highly recommend making the one and a half hour drive up to Bayfield, WI to visit the Apostle Islands. You can kayak out to islands, take a ferry to Madeline Island or just enjoy the National Lakeshore. This is a favorite spot of the bride and groom and we try to make it there at least once per year. Kudos to the folks who take a dip in the icy Lake Superior.
