The Strand is a street located in downtown Galveston. Fronting Galveston Bay, The Strand is a National Historic Landmark District that is recognized for its commercial architecture and history. The Strand serves as the commercial center of downtown Galveston. This area is known for its shopping, restaurants, bars and mueseums. There are a number of entertainment options, including the Galveston Arts Center, the Railroad Museaum, and the Texas Seaport Museum and the tall ship Elissa. The Strand is also the center of Galveston Mardi Gras festivities, the annual holiday celebration Dickens on the Strand and other seasonal festivals and activities.
