This is an amazing museum! Of play! If you have children, we think this is a must. If you do not have children, we think this is a must! While much of the museum is dedicated towards children of varying ages, there are actual museum-like components where toys of yesteryear have been put in displays.
George Eastman founded Kodak. He ultimately changed the ways humans interacted with photography. The House is beautifully crafted with gardens on the grounds. The museum is dedicated both to the advent and history of photography as well as to the life of George Eastman.
Grand Canyon of the East! This is a scenic park with some lovely waterfalls of the Genesee River. Located about one hour south of Rochester.
These waterfalls are stunning! Located about one hour west of Rochester near Buffalo. If you go, we recommend you take the Maiden of the Mist Voyage to really become immersed in their power.
The 1848 Women's Rights Convention was held here. Located about one hour southeast of Rochester.
A lovely old Victorian cemetery where Susan B Anthony, Frederick Douglas are buried. The cemetery has a wonderful display of trees, old stonework, and rests on a glacial esker.
The Fingers Lakes, located one hour south of Rochester, are a series of north-south running long narrow lakes carved by glaciers. The effect is a scenery of low swooping hills that are now covered in forests and vineyards with excellent soils. The white wine production of the area is recognized around the world.
The Erie Canal is a historical milestone that connected the Great Lakes to the Eastern Seaboard and ports of New York City. There is a nice bike/walking path that follows the canal, and you may intersect some small village like communities along it. It is a really nice walk if you prefer to remain on flat and level ground.
ahh, art! Where would we be without it? This is a great classical little museum. They managed to pack a lot in very nice building. Be sure to pop over to Village Gate or walk around on University Ave to catch some more modern art installments.
The Genesee River provided the backbone for the settlement of the Rochester area. The rive waterfalls located in and around downtown Rochester supplied the power for grinding flour from neighboring farms, which could then be transported via the Great Lakes and Erie Canal to much of the then settled nation. High Falls downtown has some great views, a high pedestrian bridge, and of course, is the location of Genesee Brewery.
A large neighborhood arts focused festival runs most of the day on Saturday and Sunday.
