It was Spring 2009 when Althea and Kevin first met. She was visiting UC Santa Cruz for an overnight trip for prospective students (ASF), while Kevin was in his first year of college. It was lunch time, and their group was at the Oakes Lower Lawn. Althea, your typical tomboy athlete, was throwing a football, and Kevin couldn’t help but notice that she “had a good arm for a girl”. Kevin’s roommate, JJ, mentioned that they went to high school together and that Althea had played baseball. JJ introduced Kevin to Althea, who left a lasting impression on him. Althea doesn’t recall ever meeting Kevin... Kevin & Althea didn’t see each other again until Fall 2009, crossing paths at an event for their student organization (FSA), and continued to run into each other at the dining hall, bus stops, and occasional house parties. Their friendship soon developed into something more the following year when they both moved off campus into a house with their friends. Althea lived at Archer, and Kevin lived at Majors, located just a couple of blocks away. Due to the close proximity of the houses and the tight-knit group of friends, they spent a lot of time together, going to house parties color coordinating as a group, throwing joint birthday parties, hosting Friendsgiving & Friendsmas celebrations, etc. Their hangout sessions and late nights brought Althea and Kevin closer together, and eventually their friendship grew into something more. Althea invited Kevin to her little cousin’s 2nd birthday party, where he met her family, and the rest is history. Over the past 15 years, they have built a life together - creating joyful memories and overcoming difficult hardships. They have raised two loving and spoiled furbabies (Buster & Mason), survived grad school during the pandemic, traveled to many new cities, endured several heartbreaking Golden State Warriors and SF Giants seasons while also celebrating many championships together, and so much more. They have been each other’s cheerleaders in reaching personal and professional milestones and achievements, they have been one another’s rock through the loss of loved ones, and continue to ground each other as they take this next step in their lives. Althea and Kevin’s love is everlasting, and they are overwhelmed with excitement to spend the rest of their lives together.
