Flight
If you're flying from overseas or East Coast, it may be easier to find flights to the SFO. For our NYC friends: I typically fly Jetblue or Virgin America from JFK -> SFO, and then you may take an Uber/Lyft to the hotel. If you are flying in earlier, it might be nice to find a hotel in San Francisco if you plan to explore the city for a few days and then take an Uber/Lyft to Los Altos.
Flight
Norman Y Mineta San Jose International Airport is a smaller airport closer to us in the South Bay Area. It is about a 20-25 minute drive (without traffic) to Los Altos from this airport. If you're flying from Southern California, it will be easy to find flights on Southwest Airlines to this airport, and then taking a rideshare to Los Altos.
Hotel
This is Lisa's favorite hotel to stay at in San Francisco - though it's not central to Downtown/Union Square if you're planning to mostly shop. We love staying here because it's in the heart of Japantown (which is small and really just about two blocks), but it's a pretty quiet area with more affordable public parking. It's also close to one of our favorite restaurants on Fillmore St. known as "State Bird Provisions" :)
