Although this is hard for Alma to admit, she noticed Jesse first. It was a nice sunny day when a 7th grade Alma noticed Jesse across the hall. It was weird but she was immediately interested (Jesse says it was “love at first sight”). After a few days, she decided to say hi as he passed by and he looked at her with a confused face thinking, “who are you?” After some time, endless talks over the phone, a million handwritten letters (yes, we’re old), and the occasional hang out, there was a sense that something special was flourishing. Of course, they felt they were too young to date, so they mutually kept each other in the friend zone until Alma’s junior year and Jesse’s sophomore year of high school. Long story short, Alma kept leaving to further her education. First she left for community college, then UC Santa Cruz and finally for grad school. After enduring the High School drama, a long distance relationship, at times not having 2 dimes to rub together, living hours away from family and learning how to ”adult” on their own, somehow, these crazy kids always found a way to make it work! Although he knew she was the one, it still took the dude 12 years of dating and a nudge or 6 to propose. 🐢 And here they are now, hoping Covid-19 doesn’t make them wait another 12. Of course, we’ve been dating since dinosaurs were still roaming planet earth and didn’t want to bore you with every single detail. Therefore, we left some stuff out for your sake and well being 😂. You can always ask...
