Like so many love stories begin, we met at a bar called "Dominie's" in Astoria. Shortly after, Dave sent Meghan a music video of him playing "Careless Whisper" on the saxophone, which pretty much sealed the deal. About a month after meeting, we decided to go away for the weekend and stay in a little cabin in the Poconos. Everything went wrong - the heat abruptly stopped working (it was December), the driveway was iced over and the car was completely stuck, and we couldn't get any response from our Airbnb host for help. We ended up drinking a lot of Lagavulin 16 and staying up all night in the warmth of his idling car, sharing our life stories and growing closer...and falling in love. In the end, our Poconos misadventure became our favorite trip we'd take because we realized that even with everything falling apart around us, we didn't mind as long as we had each other.
In 2019, we planned an epic, 3 week trip to Europe that kicked off in Barcelona, Spain to celebrate the wedding of our friends Dani and Lara. We spent weeks (maybe months) researching and planning for our trip, and finally decided that from Barcelona, we would travel to Zurich, Switzerland and then Munich, Germany, followed by Vienna, Austria, and finally Prague in the Czech Republic. Dave's great-grandparents and grandparents emigrated from a little town outside of Munich called Memmingen, and so before we had a little too much fun at Oktoberfest, we planned a day trip to see the town and church where his grandparents were married - and that's where Dave proposed! Every day on our trip was so meaningful and full of love, and we'll remember that moment for the rest of our lives.
UPDATE 4/13/2021 The wedding is on - we welcome you to join us on Sunday, April 3, 2022. Please send good vibes, say prayers, or rub any good luck charms for there to be no natural disasters or plagues occurring at that time. UPDATE 01/18/2021 Unfortunately, we will not be able to have a ceremony on April 11, 2021 (our second wedding date after pushing back the original) with all (or any, really) of our friends and family with us at the Basilica Hudson. Our venue is moving our wedding ceremony to spring 2022 (exact date is to-be-determined). Dave and I feel like we are already married in our hearts and through our commitment to each other, and we will just have to wait to celebrate with everyone as we originally envisioned. Our wedding will be a celebration of our love but also a celebration of reuniting with all of our friends and family, whom we dearly miss. Fingers crossed, third time's the charm! :) UPDATE 6/10/2020 Our original wedding date, 10/4/2020, marks exactly 4 years of us meeting, as well as 1 year of Dave proposing. It's hard to believe we won't be married on this day, as we were looking forward to the sentiment the date holds for us. I also can not believe I've found myself in the position of calling off a wedding, considering eloping, contemplating moving/moving again/moving back, maybe changing careers, not having a job, and rescheduling a wedding etc all in the last 6 months - and I know I'm not alone.
