How We Met

A Hers Perspective

Allye: In the fall of 2018, I had just begun teaching at a new school and moved to a new town. One evening in November, I received a text from my childhood friend, Drew. After a brief small-talk exchange, he inquired as to my relationship status and mentioned he had a friend from college who was also single. Drew described him as "the best guy I know," so I agreed to allow him to give this friend my phone number. Shortly thereafter, I received my first text message from Taylor Hill. We set up a first date (drinks, not dinner). He was staying in East Nashville for the off-season, so we met at my favorite bar, The Public House. It was a school night, and I had decided the date should last around an hour. I'd be back home and in bed by 9:00 p.m. at the latest. I was a little early, and I had just ordered a drink when Taylor walked in. He ordered the prissiest Hot Toddy I'd ever seen, and then we settled in at a table in the coldest corner of the bar. He asked a few strategic questions, and I started talking. I kept talking until the bar closed. We parted ways with the sweetest goodnight hug. My only regret is that I hadn't curled my hair to make a better first impression. Taylor Hill, I love you, and I cannot wait to spend my life with you... learning how to be a better listener.

How We Met

A His Perspective

Taylor: If we start from the beginning, then we have to address who set us up. My buddy, Drew Fann, ran into Allye’s uncle, and they were catching up when Drew asked how Allye was doing. Apparently, Uncle Jerry was quite emphatic in his response as he said, “she’s single and she’s on the PROWL!” Drew was kind enough to keep me in mind, as I was single as well. Obviously, Drew told me about her, so I then connected with Allye via text message to ask her out (romantic). Allye said yes (of course she said yes...she’s on the prowl!). We agreed to meet at her favorite bar in East Nashville. Here’s where it gets interesting... she cancelled the day of our “first date” because she was tired from work. (Not on the prowl?) So, we rescheduled for a Wednesday night in mid-December, and I fully expected her to cancel again because of “work.” However, she did not, and we met at Urban Cowboy Public House in East Nashville. I walked in, and there she was...sitting there drinking by herself! I introduced myself, and the rest is history! We met around 8:00 p.m. and time flew by. Later, I found out that she called her friend (Catherine) on the way to our date to be sure she was ready to call and bail her out if she didn’t like me! We left around 11:00 p.m., which threw Allye off because she planned on staying for one hour... seems like I’m a good listener. This was one of my favorite nights we’ve had together because we clearly synced from the very beginning. On a serious note, I’m grateful to Drew and Uncle Jerry for starting this whole thing. Allye, I love you so much and am excited to be your husband. I’m sure whatever she writes is going to be way better than mine, so I’m sorry.
