Question

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

Answer

We suggest arriving at 12:30PM to allow time for parking and walking to the Basilica. The ceremony will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m.

Question

Where is the Basilica of Sacred Heart?

Answer

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart is located in the heart of the University of Notre Dame’s campus. It sits right next to the Main Building (the Golden Dome) and is easily walkable from most campus parking lots and landmarks. Signs around campus will also help guide you there. Here is a helpful map: https://map.nd.edu/

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?

Answer

For the ceremony, guests can park in the Grotto Lot, St. Liam’s Lot, or Bookstore Lot. See map above for more info. If you need to pass through a gate on campus, simply tell the attendant you are attending a wedding at the Basilica. There is ample parking at the reception!

Question

Can I bring a plus one?

Answer

If your invitation included a plus one, you’re welcome to bring a guest. Just make sure to include their name in your RSVP.

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

Yes! Kids are welcome at both the ceremony and the reception. We just ask that they remain supervised, and please note in your RSVP if your children will be joining us.

Question

What are the policies for the Basilica of Sacred Heart?

Answer

1) Because the Basilica is a sacred space and a wedding is a formal occasion, guests are asked to wear proper attire (e.g., no jeans, short skirts or jumpers, shorts, tank tops or spaghetti straps, yoga pants or other athletic wear, flip-flops, etc.). Please reference our dress code for guidance on appropriate attire. 2) No food or beverages may be brought into the Basilica. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted inside the Basilica or anywhere on campus. 3) Please refrain from using your cellphone during the ceremony, including for photos. Thank you!

Question

What is a Catholic Wedding? What if I'm not Catholic?

Answer

Our wedding will follow The Order of Celebrating Matrimony with Mass. This will include readings, music, prayers, and a few familiar moments you might recognize (like standing, sitting, and singing!). If you’re not Catholic, please don’t worry - everyone is welcome, and we’re just so glad you’ll be there. You can participate in whatever way feels comfortable, and we’ll have a program to help you follow along. We hope you simply enjoy being part of a meaningful celebration of faith, love, and commitment.

Question

Are the venues accessible?

Answer

Yes! For the ceremony, handicapped parking is available for cars with ADA placards in the Grotto Lot, St. Liam’s lot and off Sorin Circle. Anyone dropping off a guest with a disability is invited to drive the guest to one of the two ADA entrances. Guests can be dropped at Sorin Circle and use the ADA entrance on the east side of the Basilica or may be dropped at the front of the Basilica and use the ADA entrance on the south side of the Basilica. The reception venue is ADA accessible as well!
