Ithaca is a cold place. So what does a typical college senior do to combat the cold on a Wednesday night during senior year? Well, drag one of his best friends to a bar with best drink special in town, that's what! So our groom found himself at Dunbar's, the quintessential dive bar, with one of his oldest friends Rahul (who also happens to be the officiant for Saturday's ceremony). Wednesdays at Dunbar's were famous for being "Group Therapy" night-- a pitcher of beer and a glass of kamikaze shots for $5. After a few rounds of "therapy," Rahul asked our groom if he knew this girl named Alli who would be stopping by. Rahul was surprised when the groom said no, but decided she should drop by anyway. -- Our bride was on her way home from the library at around 11PM. She wanted to see what her friends were up to and discovered that Rahul was at Dunbar's with some guy, Cha-something, and despite not knowing him, she decided to show up and hang out for a bit anyway. Perhaps it was fate, or perhaps it was a few too many rounds of Group Therapy, but let's just say that our groom didn't exactly make a great first impression. The groom contends this was fate-- had the bride responded favorably to his request for a date the next day, this whole thing may never have happened. He was kind of a jerk back then. -- Fast forward eight years to 2015 when Rahul was in New York City for a job interview. He organized a party at a friends' place on the Upper West Side. Our bride was tired from one too many weekends in the city. Our groom hardly knew anyone there and was planning on staying home. But something motivated both of them to overcome their laziness and head to this party. When they arrived, again, as perhaps fate would have it, they were the only single people at this party. And over a gin and tonic, they started to get to know each other once again. After talking for most of the night, they realized they had met once before, at Dunbar's.
