Ali decided she wanted to propose to Abby while visiting her dad and stepmom in Punta de Mita at the same beach that they are now planning their wedding. While she was there, she booked an airbnb in Idyllwild where they had previously shared an unforgettable weekend together, cooking dinners, unplugging from the bustle of their busy lives in LA, and falling even deeper in love. Days later, the airbnb host messaged Ali saying he had to remove the listing due to zoning laws, but that she could keep her reservation directly with him. She was overjoyed to be able to return to the same magical spot with a gorgeous overlook of the mountains. It seemed the perfect spot to pop the question! Ali asked Abby if she would like to return to Idyllwild for Memorial Day weekend and she immediately took off work. Ali pretended to reserve a different airbnb, booked a private chef, found a beautiful ring, and for 4 grueling months waited for the upcoming trip they planned together :) Unbeknownst to her, Abby also had similar plans to propose on their trip and had searched for that same airbnb, unable to find it anywhere. Now, she finally understands why! She too bought a gorgeous antique ring and anxiously awaited their vacation. She even asked for her father’s permission, never having met him, but knowing it was something Ali had mentioned wanting when they first started dating. A bold and courageous (and quite anxiety-inducing) move! Ali’s dad, knowing his daughter had the same plan, of course gave his blessing. The day came to leave for Idyllwild and they decided to go on a hike before getting to the airbnb. Both nervous, they shared a lovely lunch overlooking a beautiful lake, but for some reason both felt it wasn’t the right moment. As they drove to their airbnb, Abby noticed Ali’s hands were sweating profusely, but chalked it up to the windy roads. They pulled up to the airbnb they had previously visited the year prior & Ali pulled Abby out of the car to the overlook. Confused, Abby thought they were trespassing and had no idea what they were doing there. Not able to wait any longer, Ali confessed to booking the airbnb and got down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and asked her to marry her. “Wait! Wait!” Abby exclaimed. At that moment Ali had a feeling they were more aligned than she even imagined. “Do you have a ring too?!” She asked. Abby confirmed she did, ran to the car, and returned with her black box. The two melted on the floor together, laughing and crying. A magical & memorable moment, which only further confirmed that they were truly on the same page for their future together :)
