Beginning her first year at Bowie State University, Sequoia was invited to join the Navigators, a campus ministry chapter. Upon her first “Navlife” Bible study, she joined the worship team and was playfully volun-told to lead a song. So, at that first “Navlife”, she was introduced to “Zeke”, a recent graduate who played the keys for the worship team. (Although most people knew him as Zeke, he introduced himself as Isaiah) A few days later was worship rehearsal and Isaiah kindly agreed to pick up/drop off Sequoia (ironically, he wasn’t aware that he’d be picking her up for the next five years). As the team rehearsed, the two became enamored by each other’s musical talent. On the car ride back to campus, they began getting to know each other & discovered they shared a strong passion for R&B/soul music. That conversation established the beginning of their friendship. As weeks passed, they continued to talk and grew to also admire each other’s walk & love for Christ. By the next month, the two admitted their budding feelings for one another and went out every weekend after. The next Spring, Isaiah asked Sequoia to be his girlfriend and the two have been in love since. Their years together have been filled with love, laughter, friendship, music, and most importantly faith, hope, and endurance in Christ. The couple celebrates four years together and can’t wait to begin their union giving thanks & honor to God and celebrating with their close friends & family!
