There were many factors that influenced our decision, but ultimately the wedding was cancelled because of complications and concerns related to COVID-19. Cases in California have been extremely volatile for the past 12 months, and considering how unpredictable this virus has been so far, we felt it was best to cancel our reception for the safety of ourselves and those closest to us.
Yes! Even though we cancelled the big reception, we still proceeded with a small ceremony in my parent's backyard and were legally married on August 22nd, 2021. It wasn't the wedding we had planned, but it was beautiful nevertheless, and we were surrounded by 40 of our closest friends and family to help celebrate our special day :)
We were very lucky that Brian & Kathy allowed us to use their backyard, and it ended up being better than we could have ever hoped for. We set up outdoor string lights, we had a florist help decorate, and a catering company set up tables and a bartending station, so the backyard was transformed into a small but gorgeous venue. In total, there were about 40 people at the wedding. Allie's brother, Zach, was our wedding officiant, and he fought back tears for much of the ceremony but did an amazing job. When the ceremony finished, we had a brief cocktail hour, followed by a delicious catered dinner. During dinner, Kevin (Best Man) and Mike (Father of the Bride) delivered 2 beautiful speeches, the conversation (& drinks) were flowing, so we didn't cut the cake until nearly 10 pm. The rest of the night was spent on the back patio for our, "Silent Disco," where we danced our booties off until nearly 3 am! It was an amazing night :)
Yes! Even though we had a very small and intimate ceremony, we were still lucky enough to get some amazing photos (huge shout out to Chris & Jordan for doing such an amazing job).
